moulding urethane sideskirts...?

does anyone know what material body shops use to mold in urethane??

Cynikal.Mindset 24-Mar-2004 07:24 PM

most likely fibeglass cloth method (same as with a glass kit) and then use a special plastic based filler (not bondo which is glass based)...its basically the same technique except the bodyman has to be pretty good cuz if u sand too deep in urethane it melts the plastic and turns rough and its almost impossible to get back to original

thanks man, i am looking around for shops to do this for me... anyone know of a place??

the one shop quoted me 200 for the side skirts to be moulded in and thats without paint or anything, just the moulding...

Personally I wouldnt do it... if you ever have to replace a fender you have to remove the side skirt to get the bottem bolts... then your into big$$ for a repaint!

thats another consideration i have looked into

I want to know where that can be done too

my next door neighbor (who builds custom lowriders) is gonna help me and teach me to do mine... im gonna get a type-r front and rear lip, and hes gonna teach me the proper way to sand, repair, and mould the lips to my stock bumpers.... do you think that a type-r lip will look good moulded to the bumper?
