Motomaster Wipers
 

I want to vent about this piece of junk a bit. :nods:

I picked it up early last summer for under $10 and it replaced the entire wiper arm. I had it on my driver side until today and I had OEM Honda wiper on the passenger side. I bought a set of them before when I used to drive a VW Jetta and they performed well then so I got them thinking that they'd be just as good. After dealing with the Canadian Tire one for way too long, I went and got one of those Honda refill wiper blades which is far superior and cheaper too (picked it up for $5.61). The Motomaster wipers were complete garbage on my Civic. Maybe it's the aerodynamics of Civics or whatever, but there's noticable lift at high speeds.

Pros about the Motomaster wiper blade:
- None... okay, I'm being mean, it does wipe ok when at a standstill :D

Cons:
- Lift at high speeds (95km/h+, if you're going above probably 125km/h then forget about it wiping anything at all!)
- Due to the design of it, ice likes to build up on the wiper arm itself thus preventing the wiper blade from being flexible enough to wipe properly
- Installation is difficult compared to OEM Honda ones; Honda wipers just "click" into place but the damn Motomaster ones came with a bazillion fidgits and it took a while to figure out which one was the right one
- Colour of it isn't a true black colour; looked kinda faded (like you left a black plastic toy out in the sun too long and it faded)

imo only thing canadian tire is good for in their auto department is cleaning products

as for the blades, winter blades have an extra boot around the wipers, so taht ice can not build up between the wipers. and for the wipers going, yeah mine does goes up as well. but i have no complaints i got mine from wal mart with that teflon stuff, just the high speed wipe bothers me a little, but doesn't happen to often.
never tried oem, since i haven't owned a civic as a first owner before and i had 2 4th gens so they have been thorugh 10 years arleady so they obviously din'thave oem on them. so i dont' know what to say about oem. but my aftermarket blades from walmart works like a charm for me. high speed wipes works good as well. so i dunno dude., prolly got a bad blade, but i could bw rong, sorry.

im using the teflon blades too..... no complaints :nods:


as for the wiper moving at high speeds...... remember that you're driving a civic...... not a cadillac

When I bought replacements for my g/f's car this winter I bought the cheapest blades they have and it came to over $20. Then I went to Honda and bought new blades for myself and they were only $12.

The only thing I hate about OEM wipers is that when you wash your car, as I did yesterday the blades automatically freeze up solid.

In my opinion the OEM Blade replacement gets a 5 for 5 rating since it's way cheaper and superior.

I agree, OEM is the best out there. I have tried all sorts of wipers and blade replacements and none have been half as good as the stock Honda ones.

Yeah, from now on I'm sticking with the wiper blade refills from Honda! If I had only known that they existed before I went the Motomaster route!! Oh well, I learned a lesson!! :)

And dammit, at $5.61 it's probably the cheapest thing that you can buy from Honda!! lol

Before you complain..........which ones did you get? (they have at least 10 different brands that they carry). Mine are from crappy tire, and they work great.

Whoops, sorry 'bout that!! They're just the regular ones. (not winter, not teflon, not anything special, just the regular run of the mill Motomaster wipers) :)

Ok, but there is still 4 different "regular run of the mill Motomaster wipers".

I have the "regular run of the mill Motomaster wipers" too. They cost around $8.99 for the drivers side, and $6.99 passenger side. (different sizes) They work great. :nods:

Did you ever think that it might have something to do wth the windsheild? Ie......road film that is on the front window, that might of been interfering with the wipers.....therefore making them work like crap?

I had to use a cleaner on the front window because I had the same problem. Over time, the rubber in the blades start to wear out. Some of the wearing cause the rubber to get worn into the front window. I use cleaner to remove the grim, and presto........they work better than new. :nods:

Don't be so quick to blame the wipers.

hey pul what did you use to clean your windows?
i notticed that if the blade isn't wiping that well, u just use like napkins or something to wipe the blades of any excess grime or what not. always works for me and i love my aftermarket ones. i paid dirt cheap for them :D

You can use vinegar to clean your wiper blades, I find it works pretty good. Then I use auto glass stripper (bought it at walmart) to clean the windshield and then I apply a coat of rain-x.

I've switched back to Honda ones and it wipes the windshield perfectly so I know that there isn't some sort of film or anything on the windsheild.

The pair of Motomaster wiper blades that I purchased for my Honda didn't work very well so I'm guessing that they were defective in some way (so it's a good thing they're in the trash now!) since others don't seem to have a problem with them and like I said in my original post, I used to have them on an old car and in that application they worked perfectly fine!

And if some of you have that film on your windshield then try a mixture of vinegar and water to clean it off and every couple of months, spray some Windex or whatever onto a paper towel and clean off the blades themselves. Cleaning them off every so often works wonders. :)
