Leaky Rad
I bought my car with a brand new rad in it but it seems to be leaking from the bottom tray of the rad. now the car was sitting by itself for a while but now that i run it there seems to be some fluid seeping out of the bottom tray of the rad. the fluid is new cause the rad was done just prior to the previouse owner taking the car off the road. there are no hole ar any sign of corrosion at all. am i gonna have to rip the b!@t(h out to have it pressure tested?:shrugs:
=i think your rad isnt as new as u may think it is
Pressure test the coolant system in the car.
Beg, borrow or buy a coolant system pressure tester with the proper rad cap adapter. You'll find your leak. Rads with plastics endtanks either A)Have cracks in the tanks or B)the seal between the metal and the plastic has failed. |
yeahit has plastic tanks. thanks for the suggestions. do you think i should try some stop leak first?
hey if the seal are gone wit this rad do i have to get a new one or can they re seal it???
No resealing of rads that I know of. You could try some "stop-leak" tablets for your rad, I personally don't like them but I've seen them work for a quick fix depending on the size of the "leak"
As for new rads, do yourself a favour and don't even bother pricing out the factory Honda one, unless Parkway Honda will give you a deal. Aftermarket rads for your car should be right around the $200 mark if i'm not mistaken. |
check the drain plug...when water freezes around the drain plug it can cause it to unscrew itself and then obvious it would leak...its weird but it happened to me when we had that cold cold snap last january
I would not use seal-it stuff it build up on the wtaer jackets of the motor also up here in Barrie you can get a rad for 140 bucks brand new.
well the seal seems to be leaking at the top and dripping down, so i doubt it is a drain plug prob. but i did notice leakage around the rad cap so i am hoping that it is just a faulty cap and the fluid is sitting around the tank seems to make it look worse then it is. just noticed this tonight so tomorrow i am gonna pick up a new rad cap and i'll let yas know
rad cap will do it too...start with the cheapest solutions first!
the tablets most likely wont work, my cuzzin had the same problem, his had a small crack in the bottom that leaked like a bitch, tried the tablets and nothing..so we removed the rad (10min job), and used some jb weld on it, good as new, cleaned her out while it was out and slapped it back in, 5 months later no problems.
yeah but if the seals are gone i cant use the jb weld sh!t can i? would i need a totally new rad?
put pepper in ur system seals the leaks right up....little trick i learned
pepper??? like salt and pepper!!!
are you kidding? what will that do, sounds like disaster to me! |
toyko auto parts
