Did this to my EM1.

Made my own 3/4" spacers and got some longer bolts. You can use washers instead if you want.

You may have to adjust the alignment of the hood after.

Why??? Got a big top mount intercooler? Or j32 swap?
Otherwise don't do it.

I believe the reason is to vent under hood heat, but I'm not a fan of the look.

It is to vent under hood head and in general keep the engine bay temps down (which it does do). I don't care what it looks like. Didn't do it for the looks. Function over fashion.

If they had their hood fly off, then they are incompetent and didn't do it right.

I have yet to see a single car on the street with this done to it besides mine in the past year I've had it like this. But I guess thats cause I live up north of the city...

Had my hood like this all last winter...no issues.

You only need to have it cracked open at the back just enough to let air flow out. Don't need a massive 2" prop spacer...only 1/2-3/4 inch.

If you don't like it, don't do it. Don't tell other people not to do it just because you don't like it.

^^ Function over fashion.
OP most likely has a stock car which he thinks by proping the hood he will get 20-30whp just from the lower engine bay temps.
yes i do agree it helps keep the temps down, but when you have a stock sohc under there and you prop the hood just for the looks, imo thats just ghay...

Sure...on a purpose built race car. There's absolutely NO reason to have to vent excess heat on a street car. I'm all about function > form...I have a Civic and a highly modified Camaro dude. The Camaro builds a lot more underhood temperatures than my mad tight JDM mobile could ever being a V8 with an Iron block and headers....and I still dont come close to over heating.

Not saying this mod is totally useless, because it does let heat out which is great for a race motor or any car having issues with excessive underhood temperatures, but lets be honest...9/10 people who do this "JDM hood prop" mod do it because they see every other JDM homo doing it and thinks its cool.

Come down to the city more often and you'll see it all over the place lol.

Look man im not knocking your car, chill out. A slight prop like you said is fine if its being used to a real reason...like you have a turbo under the hood and no heat wrap on your hot side piping, running big duration cams with a lot of timing and you beat the **** out of your car than it's all good in my books...but doing it just for style like 90% of the "JDM" guys around here...come on.

And obviously these idiots were incompetent. The **** I see on a daily basis on the roads is incredible lol

Guys,

I understand fully what you're saying.

The OP wants to do it to HIS car...not YOURS. So why do you care so much? If what he wanted to do to his car truely made it dangerous to them selfs or others on the street, I would understand the protest. But it's not. It's just a simple little thing.

If he's doing it for the function or the fashion is up to him.

I too am not big on useless cosmetic mods. I've done a few other things to my car that make it benefit from a slightly propped hood and lower engine bay temps. That is why I did it. Not because it's the cool thing to do.

But it doesn't matter. It's like putting a wing on your car. Some people like them, some don't. End of story.

If you're not here to help the guy or be constructive, then just don't say anything at all.

When you bolt the hood back on with the spacers, close it down and check the gaps between the body and hood on both sides to make sure it's straight. You may have to loosen the bolts again and move the hood slightly, then re-tighten.

What else have you done to your car?

You might have to align the hood left to right to get the proper gap between the hood and the fenders.

Nice!

Does your hood close as is? Or is there not enough room?

I guess you actually need the extra room under the hood...
