I've been polishing... aluminum polishing advice please

Hi, I've been polishing a set of bbs honey comb rims for a while now...

Any tips? I have found that patiently going from paint stripper - 80 grit - 120 -wet -180 - 320 - 400 - 600 - 1000 - 1500, then using white rouge on a spiral sewn wheel, still leaves the shine almost mirror like, but with tiny scratches everywhere.

What can I do to improve this? I want them perfect. They do look really good now, but...

I'm thinking that I should use 1500, then, Brown Tripoli, then white rouge? I think I used the white rouge too early.

Also, is jewlers rouge going to make any difference after the white rouge? Or is that a waste of time.

Also, where does mothers aluminum polish (by hand) fit in - my guess is the very last step before final waxing...

This takes too long, my hands hurt

But, after the terrible cutting work with 80 grit, it actually is fun,

Thanks,

-j

go to http://www.caswellplating.com they have a users forum on polishing.
These guys know there **** its the place to go if you want polishing and plating supplies!!
They have a distributor in Port perry too!
anyway you need to finish off with a softer buffing wheel make sure that you are using a separte buffing wheel for each compond also aluminum generally leaves tiny scratches that are hard to see in daylight but show up a lot in artifical light.

Make sure that you are degreasing the wheel after each sanding and polishing step.

thanks

I've been really diligent now with washing the grit away and using CLEAN water, CLEAN rags, and CLEAN sandpaper.
It really does make a difference.

Also, its amazing how a tiny "wrong turn" can create terrible scratches when making passes with my hand. I'm finally getting the hang of it and its coming out sickly nice.

Thanks.

The old skool style

The old skool style too, recall the VW jetta trophy? Black honeycomb, and now, with a mirror like polished lip.

Its taken about 7 hours PER RIM LIP!

I've spent a few hours every second day or so...

At least they are unique... which might discourage thieving bastards.

I know exactly the rims... most tasteful and graceful by design. Makes me wanna buy those SSRs in the classifieds, but then I'd have to buy an era-appropriate car too to match the rims.
