How do I replace the Hood release on a 6th gen civic??

A buddy recently got a civic (6 th gen 98) and I broke his damn hood release lever inside the car... try to help him replace it now but the part comes with the entire cable... what is need and required to do this job??

Any insight would be great!

I'd say if the cable is not broken don't use the new cable and just connect the lever. Save the cable for later when the current one breaks.
