HID questions

hey guys

i wanted to get a new full HID setup for my car (low beams and fogs) and i had a couple questions

1) are HID kits universal?? i ask because the plug for my headlight has three connectors (ground switch power i believe) and plugs in nicely but with an aftermarket HID kit would i have to cut up some wires or does it plug into my stock harness (sorry hard to explain)

2) for my fog lights are there HID kits specifically for them or would custom work have to be done?

also i didnt use the foglight plugs when wiring them up i made my own relay and spliced the wires to the foglights power and ground wires

As long as you are using stock harnesses it will just be plug and play. No cutting involved. Also for fogs, they don't have anything specifically made...but just get h3 bulbs and you will be fine. Well double check the fog light bulb size but usually h3s are the foglight bulbs.

if you get the foglights with the wiring harness then its not. just be carefull when you cut the bumper and would suggest to cut it before painting jsut incase :)

its easier to make your own harness and to have it turn on without the switch

go and get an H4 HID kit from your local parts supplier, itll run u about $170 bucks for a high/low bean kit.

put my fogs in, the switch it came with was retarded though so got a toggle switch from parts source and wired that in under the dash...its the yellow bulbs...btw what size are those? and how do u HID them i find them really dull especially when i have my HID's on, u can barely see them...well not barely

PurpleStuff 18-Aug-2009 11:13 AM

H3 bulbs are the small ones with a wire coming out from the base of the bulb.

Halogens are dull. Period. I have HIDs for my headlights And halogens for my fogs. How bright the fogs are depends on the housing too.

And hopefully, you'll spend the $150 with one of your vendors to retrofit in your existing housing!

I didn't know fogs could be retrofitted?

Thread jacking!

I want a very basic plug and play HID kit for my 99 civic SI. I don't want fancy blue colors, I just want brighter head lights because mine are so dim, it's a safety hazard! I've been told 14000k is just the bright white. That's what I want, no blue. I'm taking a four hour drive up to the girlfriends cottage a week yesterday and I want to get this done before I go.

What stores in the GTA (preferably scarborough) can I go to to buy one of these kits? Any places anyone recommends?

Thanks

I should also mention that I don't just want an hid kit where I'm replacing the bulbs. I want to replace my entire front headlight housing. The stock ones while not only looking bad are (what seems to be) fogged up? I don't know what happened to the plastic, but it looks fugly as heck.

Any stores I can walk into and look at a decent selection of headlight housings?

Thanks

Hey,
Yes you can get direct fit HID's. They are not universal, rather there are ones specifically designed for your vehicle. So be sure to cross reference your vehicles bulb type before ordering them. For your foglights, you can also order the exact fitment bulbs so that you won't need to modify anything and they will be a direct fit as well without any modding. There are many cheap brands out there that I would stay away from because they blow on you in a few months. I purchased my last kit from Xenon Corporation at www.xenoncorporation.com and its been working perfectly for the entire year and their service is really good as well. I would also recommend sticking with 8000k or less for your kit.

wiki HID lights and you'll find the answers to many of your questions about the bulb it self and figure out what you want in terms of output.

Okay, so I want nothing brighter than 6000k. Probably go with 4300 as it seems pretty much white, which is what I want. The blue attracts attention from the cops, not what I want. I just want to improve my visibility. I understand how they work.

But no one has answered my question about headlight housings. I want to change my stock on. Is there a shop I can go to in the GTA to look at and buy new headlights?
Or better yet, is it possible to get HID headlight housing? Instead of buying the housing seperately and then just getting HID bulbs that go into it?

First off, is this for a car, or your bike?

Second, there is no real such thing as a "HID headlight housing". Headlights are either reflector type, or ones with an actual HID/Xenon projector.

There is no need to buy a new headlight if you're just looking to plug in an HID bulb + ballast + possible harness. Of course, you'll just be projecting a huge blob of light that all other drivers will hate, but that's your progative. Also, if your lens is really dull/yellow/pitted, all you have to do is get a new lens.

Now if you're thinking of upgrading the headlights to those of the new Lexus/BMW/Ect, then you're looking at projectors, and retrofitting them into your existing headlight assembly.

There are many shops local. Post up your location and we can probably recommend you someone that's close to you. But off the top of my head:

HID Kits | XenonDepot HID conversion Kits | Xtreme Xenon Light Kit| Projector Halo Headlamp | LED Tail Lights | Xenon Bulbs and ballasts
