HID People: How annoying is it to loose your High Beam?

Question for those who are running HIDs in their civics. How annyoing is it to loose your high beam? Does the extra output compensates for the need to use or flash your high beam?

A high/low kit will solve that problem but i guess most people with HIDs have the low setup only.

Thanks in advance.

Never really needed after I installed the HID's. I have high beams now and I rarely use it.

Salman, I had a high/low HID kit when i had the civic and I never used the high beam. The normal low output was sufficient.

it sucks *** completely, but don't forget, with bixenon HIDs the high beam doesn't increase light output like on halogens, all it does is increase the ****** area of the light (as the shield moves down out of the way).

so when you have HID high beams, they're actually not that useful unless you're in complete darkness and need to illuminate the side of the road for some reason.

correct b....and that i believe is true in case of an HID working through a reflector or a projector. got it.

i guess it really depends on how much country driving you do... in the city you dont' realy need your high beams... in the back roads of the country where there is no city light and no street lights then it's a different story i'm sure

DRL's are high beams that are running at a lower voltage, meaning your not getting full voltage to the bulb.

unless you get a hi/lo kit, you will lose your drl's and high beam.

o ok, so the drl's are running off the same thing so you couldn't split them to like have ur normal lights and then high beams as ur hid's

very possibly, yes..
what you might have to do tho is run a relay in the mix...
the drl will still try and cut the voltage...this means your HIDs will flicker like mad and in the end burn out the ballast
you'll need to make sure that even under drl "mode" you still have 12v feeding them...

in the end tho?? you want your HIDs during standard nitetime driving circumstances pal...just replace the lows
if ya wanna get all freaky, swap out the highs too, but maybe go with a set of 10k??

in that situation i'd personally go HID on lows...and HIDs are really designed for projos
and if anything beyond that i'd add a set of good quality fogs for those times when you need something a little brighter and broader
