This is probably going to sound like a stupid question, but I was thinking of putting HIDs in my new SI - what's the difference between the different kinds? 6000, 8000, etc. Is there a certain one you would recommend?

Sorry, I forgot to ask in my last post...Is there such a thing as HID fog lights as well? If so, does it also come in 6000 or 8000 etc.

Please search for old threads. There has been a number of discussions regarding putting HID bulbs in a headlight assembly designed for an incandescent light.

The number you are asking about is the correlated colour temperature rating in Deg Kelvin. Google is your friend.

When buying hids you need to know two things: bulb size and colour you want (which is the temperature measured in kelvin).

You can get anything from 3000k (yellow) to 18 000k (purple) in any bulb size which include headlights and fog lights.

Recommend 4300k since its the closest colour to the natural sun light which will give you most visibility. Going up in numbers doesn't mean your light output will be higher, in fact its just the opposite. Your eyes are not used to seeing purple/blue light thus your visibility will be decreased in comparison with 4300k.

Note: should always lower the headlight beam down, since your headlights are not designed for hid use and will cause the light output to be scattered, blinding oncoming traffic. Just something to keep in mind.
