Fixing Rust -1/4panels - any shops?
Here are some pics of the rust..
Driver side 1/4 panel:
Passenger side 1/4 panel:
Near Gas cap (have never seen this before.. asked many people who own a civic and none have had any there before):
Now also the Driver and Passenger doors have rust along the bottom.. this picture is of the driver door.. it is alot worse than the passenger side:
For fixing it..
- 1/4 panels.. will most likely have them cut out and new ones welded on.. however, would it be better to have this done at a shop since I dont really know what I am doing?.. if I try to do it myself I will prob. mess up and end up spending more $ and alot more time.
Does anyone have a guess at the price that work would be at a shop?
- Gas cap rust.. I will most likely have to try to remove all the rust and fix it with bondo.
- Doors.. I am looking for doors to buy from anyone parting a car.. or from the scrapyard.
So my real concern is the 1/4 panels.. because I want to have this cars body fixed in about 1 month and have it looking decent with a new paint job..
What is the best method? Are there any shops in GTA that will cut the 1/4 panels off and weld new ones on (I will purchase the new 1/4 panels myself)?.. I am new to this so I dont know where and exactly how much to cut off myself.

Huh? I bought the civic for 500$.. runs good.. doors will cost 50$ each, and new quarter panels are 40$ each (Auto Body Restoration Catalog).. then I just need the old one cut out.. and car painted..

Well I would strongly recommend getting it professionally done. Granted me with not much body work experience did a big project on removing glass, removing all the rust, fixing it and now just waiting for paint. I guess it all depends how confident you are. Do a lot of research on how to do body work.
For quarter panels, when you get the replacement panels, line it up with the rusty ones and trace around the replacement. With welding you don't have to compensate for when you cut/weld in measurements.
Make sure whoever welds them on knows what he/she is doing. Reason being, most replacement panels are 20gauge which are quite thin. Welder exerts a lot of heat causing the metal to warp. An experienced welder will know exactly how to handle this situation. Also highly recommended that a mig welder with a right combination of gas is used because flux core will burn through that metal very easy.
For gas door, I hope you know that bondo is not ment to be used as a filler. Its good for evening out minor imperfections but that's about it. If you need to fill something use fibre glass based products. Either a short strand or long strand body filler.
If you were to go to a shop, I know somebody on here went to unibody (they were a trusted shop on here), got both quarters done and colour matched for 700$ or so.
In the end the prep work and ways of fixing rust will determine how long and how good the final product will look.

Good point on the fibreglass thing too. Very good to know. So bondo is used for things like dents or little chips or holes?
Btw do you have pics of your car?
