Detailing a Brand New Car - Calling Experts

So with the new car in the garage, i have been thinking about what is the best way to start it all. I couldnt find anything specific to brand new cars on autopia and elsewhere (or maybe i missed it) so if you guys can give me some specifics as to what are the dos and donts....

i was wondering i can start with a basic wash, clay, wax and sealant. also..do you guys recommend using brand new towels on new paint or it wont matter?

SAL

I have had my car for 7-8 months and as far as the exterior goes, I have done just regular washes w/o having any problems. I haven't waxed the car because I didn't see the need, but I will do one first thing in the spring.

The only thing I would advise you not to do is use Armor All on your dash or any interior parts, or at least not yet. The dash gets really dusty especially when you drive with the windows open, but once you use Armor All you will need to keep using it. I found that using a damp cloth worked better at cleaning the dust off the dash and still keeping that new car smell.

Depending on time of year .... normally worse on summer deliveries. Honda cars are bad for fall out ....rail dust that lands on the paint while delivered by train and will rust over time and cause the paint to feel rough. If you are not able to get ahold of fallout liquid . I would suggest a clay bar and some time...then off to wax your new baby to protect the paint,,,,based on the wax removal with the clay bar.

Thats what I use. The dash can be a pain to dust becuase the windshield is so deep. I never use Armour All, just a damp, clean rag.

I was wondering if it is ok to claybar and wax a car in the winter or will the cold climate effect the way the clay and wax work. The paint on my white Si has several tiny rust spots on the surface. Not rust in the paint, but small bumps on the surface that can be picked off with a finger nail.

I believe its the rail dust mention, as I have heard about it from other sources. We have a huge train yard at work and I've been told by co-workers that their cars get very dirty from the dust/dirt/crap in the air.

My paint is still flawless, it is just not so smooth anymore and has these rust colour tiny spots on it.

I would suggest to wait till it gets a little warmer. That rust your pulling out is most likely rail dust because bumpers don't rust ......swiffer glove is good too
