Is this bumper fixable?
Hi guys! Don't know if this is posted in the right section, but here goes...
My mom backed out of our driveway last weekend in the darkness and didn't see I was parked to the side (4 car driveway side by side, front and back) behind her. Don't know if she was drunk on the homemade wine lol, but she did a number on my bumper. I was wondering if you guys can recommend me to a particular body shop that can repair this or am I due for a new bumper? I'm new to this forum so don't know how to get info or anything. Help is much appreciated!!! Thanks! Here's the damages: http://i44.tinypic.com/1z3lzm8.jpg http://i42.tinypic.com/30rvf41.jpg |

i think that bumper is fixable seeing as how theres no holes
body shops..... id say google car aid customs there locaed somewhere on st.claire theyre reasonable |
u can get a heat gun n warm it up n pop it back out might have a creese or two but it shouldnt be that noticable then juss lay down some paint, then its as good as used. lol
|
looks like it can just be popped back out
|
it can be fixed but might not be perfect, just buy a aftermarket replacement. Check your bumper support might need to be fixed as well.
|
for the amount your going to pay to paint and fix it i say just get an aftermarket bumper and paint it you might spend like 100 bucks more MAX but it'll look nicer
|
Thanks for the response, guys. But I'm not very mechanically inclined for a do it yourself'er. For crying out loud, I never even got my hands dirty under the hood lol. Anyway, cash is not that important, I just want a professional to fix this and everybody's happy :) So, any shop out there you guys recommend?
Thanks again, guys!! |
car aid customs FTW

OK, I'll Google them. Thanks!

That would be fixable but like already mentioned it would likely cost you less to get a new cover. At our shop most people would prefer to replace it as it would be more convenient. The car wouldn't be tied up at the shop for 2-3 days while the bumpers fixed, the bumper would be painted ahead of time and the car would only be required for an hour or so for the installation. It looks to me like that bumpers been painted & maybe repaired once already.

shouldn't cost you more than $250 painted and out the door.

even if you pop it back out and its seamless, and you sand, prime and paint it, there'd still be ridges right?
might as well ebay a bumper, print and rattle can it yourself... eBay Motors: 2001 ACURA TL FRONT BUMPER COVER MATERIAL BLACK (item 370177658441 end time Apr-22-09 01:52:40 PDT) i plan to do that coz my bumper is super messed up from the winter... |
As far as I know, that the car hasn't been in any accidents. I bought it off my cousin and he bought it new back in 2003.
I'm all thumbs, and don't have the know how. So, I rather get it done professionally (new bumper or fix). Gallagher; Where can you get it done for $250? Do you have a shop you recommend? |

That plastic is likely going to be stretched from the impact, after its popped out it will need to be heated to remove the majority of the high spots and bring out some lows. After that it would need to be sanded to the plastic and filled with an epoxy based repair adhesive. The repair time would likely be estimated around 4-5 hours at most shops. 5 hrs @ $52/hr would likely put you over the cost of an aftermarket. Plus you would be without a car for a few days if you chose to repair.
The other thing to seriously consider is the fact that the paint condition doesn't appear to be ideal on the existing bumper. Whomever painted it last time obviously skipped using a flex additive & the way the paint is lifting up tells me the adhesion isn't that great. Hows the rest of the cover? Is their much stone chipping? Just to paint & install it I'd think most shops are gonna be charging around $300, not including the cost of a repair or new bumper. Are their guys that will fix it all for $250?.....prrrooobbably, but I don't think you'd be very happy with the results. Just remember its not a deal if you have to pay to have it redone. |
^That makes good sense. Thanks guys for insight. I really want to shop around first for prices before repair.
Gallagher; PM sent. |
i would fix that for $300.
but i would be blending the passenger fender. so basically fix and paint, blend the fender and reclear the fender and bumper. i'd also cover clear peelage on either parts for 2 years to fix at no cost. thats me tho and what i'd charge. |
