Aight, the ceiling is off...

Might as well start a new thread on this cause it involves other issues...

So, last night, after much work and elbow grease, I took the ceiling off. The driver side sun-shade thingy was sorta fucked up cause one of the screw lost its tread/marks so I had to cut the plastic to get that thing out. The ceiling is just a plastic cover as oppose to hard cardboard becaues the OEM cardboard was cut in the centre with a huge *** hole to fit the sunroof. Now the ceiling if off, I could wrap it in vinyl if I wish to and put it back on.

I saw the front has 2 drains that goes inside the pillar, just like the back, so total of 4. The connection seem pretty tight so I think the trunk flood was due to misplacement of the rear drains.

Now after a night of thought, I am having mixed feelings about this sunroof thingy.

Should I keep it? Or should I take it out and sell it and put a sheet metal over it? If the latter, can I order a roof from Honda to replaced the roof I have now? Or just go to a junkyard and start digging?

I am really confused.... uuurrrggg......

Ask where Slvr_Bullet had his sunroof put in, go to them and say... plz fix my ****... and be prepared to pay some $$$ to have everything checked, lined up, sealed... still WAY cheaper than having the roof replaced, and NO Honda will NOT sell you a new roof, even though it's somewhat possible to replace it. You have to cut it at the water channel, and at also drill out the spot welds at the seams under the windshield and in the back hatch area. That would mean a smooth roof skin w/o welding in any visible areas, but it would involve removal of the windshield... :-\

So I guess once the roof is in, it is a bitch to cover the hole huh?

..... one wrong move I made 3 years ago...

Can they weld around the hole then sand it down so it is smooth again?

just pull the s-roof take out all the old crappy foam sealent, and buy some gummy sealent (it comes in rolls like tape, but is super thick and durable) i forget the name of it ill try and find out for you...when you reinstall the roof, use the seal on the top and bottem side of the roof, this will double seal the roof and make it compleatly water tight...after you do this you will never have a leak again, and those stupid drain pipes, that always clogg up with crap will be obselete. You wont even need them anymore cuz your roof wont leak if you seal it up tight..

see if you can blow out the drain pipes, if you dont want to go ahead with the whole resealing thing, those pipes clogg up all the time, they are gay...

and the headvisor screw, the same thing happened to me, stripped threads...ull have to re tap it...

im not sure on the design of your roof, but it should be a clamping style, which meane there will be a bunch of screws all the way around the sunroof, clamping the top and bottem to the metal roof...

Nova, did you get a factory power roof in, or a ghay aftermarket one. $1500 or so will get you fixed up with a much better installed factory roof... ask Slvr-Bullet.

It's not impossible to get the hole covered up, but will cost about the same as having a BRAND new, factory sunroof that's powered. Plus it's risky cuz you never know what the body shop does under that paint... I don't trust body shops.

I got undercoating on my car 5 years ago... and I'm still about it

My sunroof style is:

Slides under the hood, has a rubber around the glass, and some hard rubber around the cut roof. The whole assembly just bolt to the side of the car.

When am I suppose to use this gummy sealent? Is that a solution to seal off the roof completely and not use it anymore?

B, my sunroof is an aftermarket one. It is slightly bigger then the SI sunroof. I don't know why the dealer didn't install the factory roof? And to weld a sheet metal is about 1500 bucks? Wow.....

It's not the welding of the hole that's a problem... it's getting it perfect and painting the roof... figure $100/hour they charge, and it's easily 8-10 hours of work for something like that plus materials and paint. They may do it for less, but your car is a 2000.... don't skimp on body work.

I'm telling you, if you go to this place there Slvr-Bullet went, they WILL reinstall the s-roof properly and that will make you a happy man. Someone has a s-roof that's 10 years old from that place and has had no problems with it at all! s-roofs are the isth, I sometimes wish I had one on one of my cars...

I used the sealent between the roof and under the sunroof trim... no you still get your sunroof, its just to stop water from getting by past the sunroof, and into your car where the drainage system picks up...if there is no water getting past the sunroof, then there is no use for the drainage system...I did this over 2 years ago, and my car has been bone dry ever since... It might not be your solution tho, you have to decide for yourself, exactly how the water is getting in there....

the way I found out where it was leaking was by putting a garden hose on the roof, and I sat inside the car with the headliner off, and waited too see where the water came through...I concluded that it was a poor instalation using a poor sealent, so I removeed the sunroof, and replaced the sealent with better stuff..And it worked..(I left the drainage system clogged up also, and my car is still dry)...by stopping the water from even getting between the sunroof and the tin roof, compleatly fixed the problem of a faulty drainage system(cuz its now useless since no water gets in)...

I pmed Steve and he gave me the number of that place. I will go home and do the method recommanded by BoostZex and then decide from that point.

So most likely... it is a keeper then. Then my next problem is to vinyl the plastic cover LOL.

I think I can fix the plastic ceiling even it was cracked in.... like 3 places. I will just crazy glue it back together. The tough job is to do it upside down...

Or I will just let the bolts show... mmm... oh wait, it gets covered by the trims... or does it not... I forgot... LOL

My gf wants black vinyl.

And I haven't figured out how to take the sunroof cover out, it still has cloth on it....

I heard people say "dye" the vinyl, how do you dye it? Like pour the colour on a cloth and wipe it on?
