Question Rear Wheel Bearing

I need a little info here. I have to replace my rear wheel bearing and by looking at the service manual seems pretty easy since they don't appear to be pressed in.

Anyways just doing some price comparison, I called honda and said I had a '00 sir and needed a rear wheel bearing, with no other info he told me they had one for $270.

I called part source and said i had a 2000 honda civic sir and asked for the same thing... they asked if it was rear disc or drum, then if it was abs or not. I told them disc with abs and he said he didn't have any but they had a few for non abs for $132. So i tried calling another part source and he only asked if it was drum or disc and said they had a few in stock for same price.

SO that threw me off, do i need a bearing for abs? or is that just how their computers catagorize things and it doesn't apply to me?

hey are you sure you need rear bearings ??
ya you need one with abs
you might as well service your rear brakes while your at it
its fairly easy to do after you got the brakes off all you do is take off the cap then get a 32MM socket remove the axle nut
then put the new bearing on .. torque the axle nut
dont forget to indent the nut
let me know if you need any help iGarage

I did a replacement on my civic and it took 10 minutes in the driveway to replace....

Bought my rear wheel bearing and hub (all one peice) at the auto wreckers for 60 dollars off a write off with 30 K......

So before you go spending 270.00 and then redoing the brakes....call a wrecker....

Yes you did need that socket to remove the hub.....

Re: Rear Wheel Bearing

Aftermarket will have 1 part to cover the most number of vehicles so your Disc ABS wheel bearing will work for both ABS and non-ABS cars. It's just a sensor ring that's different.

I'd suggest you call up NAPA and see if they have an Altrom part that will fit. Altrom is a parts distributor that purchases directly off OEM suppliers, good quality parts for a good price. Unfortunately you can't purchase from Altrom yourself. You can also check the Altrom site yourself: www.altrom.com. Napa can look up the Altrom part numer too.

i honestly refuse to buy parts from a place that asks me questions like "drums or disc" shouldnt they know these things?

but yea aftermarket will have one part number that will cover almost everything for civics..or any other car.. but with things like how the part matters if it has ABS or not i would stick to OEM

Uh alot of cars came with different options. Some had disc, some had drums. Their software probably classifies the SiR the same as a regular civic.

..

i just redid my whole rear end.. u cant buy just the bearing.. you have to buy the whole hub assembley and they run about 180 @ partsource.. a better place to get them is on ebay..the bearing is pressed in it can be pressed out and a new bearing pressed in if u can get ur hands on just the ebaring.. but chances are u cant...
and there is 2 different options.. disc and drum.. and yes they do make a differance.. 2 different bearings and the hubs are slightly different in width...
and also there is 2 options abs or not abs.. the abs has what looks liek a gear at the end of it... the non abs is just rounded off..

partsource also asks u what motor blah blah.. none of that matters.. u say si and u get disc breaks.. anything else.. u get drums..
