DIY: Steering Wheel Swap
Alright I am not sure if anyone has posted on this topic or not but it has to do more so with 88-91 Civic/CRX's and swapping steering wheels.
I have seen a number of pictures on here with the entire enter piece ripped off of steering wheels because people wanted to switch them. First things first, do not pry at the main cover of the steering wheel with some big screw driver or pry bar. Get yourself a small slotted screw driver ( I use the really small kine fo repairing glasses and so on, minimize and tool marks). Remove the center symbol on the wheel. Put it in a safe place where you won't lose it. Using, I belive, it's a 20-21mm socket and an exntion loosen and remove the bolt way down in the wheel. Normally here you would bust out you puller and go to town but a few whacks to the left and right side and a bit of work will get that wheel to pop off. Be careful not to yank and rip out of horn wire. Once this is done the main cover can be removed with a few screws. Now you free to attach your new collar and wheel. Last but not least SAVE the old wheel. If you ever want to sell the car it may be a good thing to have if you ever plan to sell the car. Anyway I hope this helps anyone planning a swap. If this is just a repeat of another post than please remove. Thanks |

on the eg's with srs on the underside of the wheel there's a philips head screw, under that cover you;ll see a yellow connector, and if you look around you'll notice that there is a wire tied around the wires leading to that connector, a red plug should be attached to that, unpug the yellow connecter and plug it into the red one that's the saftey for the airbag. there is also on both sides of the wheel plactic covers (or one cover and your cruise control cover) under those are torque screws, then the airbag should slide out exposing the 19mm hub nut.

after removing the screws under the plastici around the column there's a few screws holding part of the air bag to the column. you also need to remove the plastic under the column on the dash to un hook the air bag from the car. of course when you do this your srs light will be on.
