DIY LED Dome Light in EK Hatchback

i am off today, and had nothing to do...........

do u guys think that the dome light is so dim in the EK hatch?

i tried to use different bulbs, but still not good as expected. instead of buying some pre-wired LED dome lights, i decided to make my own, also i am going to install the integra map-light to my EK at the same time

sorry guys.....i didn't take picture til i almost finish everything, but i think i should share this with u guys

here is what i use

-original dome light from my EK
-used integra map light
-5mm white LED 17000mcd---------3.0V-3.2V, 20mA
-R220 resistor
-some PCB board
-tools for soldering

R=V/I

for safety, i use 14V to calcuate the resistor value
Voltage drop is 14V-(3X3.2V)=4.4V

R=4.4/0.02
R=220

i use 1 resistor for each 3 LEDs, wiring in series
like this +12V----+R220----+LED----+LED----+LED--

i haven't put that on my car yet, may be tomorrow

i will post picture when i finish the installation

tell me what u guys think

Damn after i started to read that r/v112v14V-(3X3.2V)=4.4V..........i skipped that and went straight to the pictures and man it looks like its goona be nice and bright. Let me know how it goes cause it is really ****ing dim in the 96-00 civics. I might ask you to make one for me and ill pay you for it. lol

97silverhb, where did you get the LEDs and resistors from? Active Electronics? Sayal?

Have you considered painting the PCB a silver or chrome colour? I was thinking that a reflective material (non-conductive) would be good behind the LEDs to increase brightness.

i got the LEDs with other electronic components from Hong kong long long time ago......

i don't think painting the PCB would increase the brightness because the view angle of the LED is like 120-160 degree max.....it can't light up the back of the LED

I was watching this about making an LED house light and the amount of light from the rear was incredible. Although it couldn't hurt it's not very important for a maplight to have a high output light. It's not like they're your headlights. Thanks for the DIY.
