How to front lip install:

Type r style lip on an ek:
(found a diy so i will just copy the images and paste it as its straight forward and i dont have a lip to install on a car)

Take your bumper completly off in order to do this. I used clamps and some towls to temp. hold the middle of the lip to the bumper while I drilled pilot holes through ends of the lip and the bumper in the wheel well.

To keep the middle part of the lip from sticking up, I used a 4" long by 3/4" thick by 1" deep piece of scrap wood that was just laying on the floor next to my workbench, (you might have to be creative if you can't find this)/

Wedge the scrap piece of wood in-between the bottom of the bumper and the gap of the lip (underside/backside)(you can't see it from the front of the car so looks aren't important). I used a glue gun to secure the piece of wood into the slot...you could also use epoxy or superglue (not elmers or wood glue).

The piece of wood acts as a wedge...pressing the bottom of the lip down therefore keeping it tight against the top rim of the bumper opening.

Depending on the lip you are installing on the first gen or second gen ek model civic the install might vary a little because each lip has its own way of how its installed. this diy will give you a rough how-to and will also make you realize as to why you would do what. so you can base your theories off this and start your own lip install.

yea what most people have troubles is that the centre part of the lip doesnt stay flush with the bumper and they resort to things like double sided tape or even screw holes into them unfortunately that will either not work, look horrible or over time come off again because of water penetration.
this pic shows how the person did it and i liked the fact that he used something to wedge into the bottom part of the lip from behind to keep it down.

From my own experience with my front lip, there was serious scratching on the front bumper all the way around where the top edge of the lip was touching. Mine is a 00 so the Type R lip didn't extend into the front grill for vertical support and I guess it just rubbed up and down on the paint. Next time I was planning on using doublesided tape to keep it in position and protect my new bumper.

well in your case you can apply the same method as above.
except instead of putting it in the middle.
put it on both sides at the bottom.
that will keep the lip sitting and not be able to move up and down.

Is this Style Lip supposed to fit the same on both 96-98 Ek's and 99-00 Ek's??

I knew a guy who had a 98 EK and he installed a 99 SiR lip with some modification.

I found a replica lip, Tried the install, and the lip was about 2 inches too short from one side to the other!?!?!?

So much for that bs.........I just orderd a JDM SiR EK lip (96-98) so that install should be a breese.

yeah 96-98 is diff. than 99-00

i guess what i was trying to say or ask is if the actuall botom of a 99-00 bumper is shorter in length from right to left than that of 96-98.

damn the middle of my spoon replica lip always sticks up a bit.. i can pop it down sometimes but of course while riding the car it moves up.. i think im gonna do what you did in this dyi when i get sometime... and if i can't find wood... i'll do what most girls do when they can't find wood.. i'll use a dildo.. i think one dildo will do to keep the lip from moving..... wow its late and my brain is fried...

so the only screws you put on are the ones on the sides...or are there any that go on the bottom end of the lip and through the bumper. Good DIY but im not sure if the wood support is the only thing you need to have the lip hug the bumper good....

I dont completely understand where the wood goes, is it in between the original bumper and the lip (right right by the bottom opening) or is it under the lip?

its in between the two....what would it support or bridge if you put it under the lip?

this DIY was very helpful...the job is not that difficult at all but when doing for the first time...the tricky part is to drill holes in the side of the lip so that they align perfectly with the holes in the bumper.

and instead of the wood...i simply used two blocks of white packing foam glued b/w the lip and the bumper cuz i was not sure if wood can do shyt to my bumper..it expands and contracts u know.
