DIY - EG Black Housing Headlight

Get your self some Black paint and Silicone. I used KRYLON FUSION for Plastic. you dont need to sand or prime. was like $6.88. and Mastercraft Window and Door Silicone for like $3.29.

From there. pull out your headlights. you dont have to remove your bumper. but it does make it ez'er. 5 screws on the top and 2 in the fender wells remove the bumper. dont forget to take off the 5 metal clips on the headlights.

preheat your oven to 325C and stick your headlight (I did one at a time) for 5-8 mins. take a flat screwdriver and pry them apart.

Get some tape and news paper and tape up the part you dont want sprayed.

From there. clean em down with some paint thinner or something like that. let them dry and spray em. I gave them a good 5-6 coats to get them covered nice.

Let them dry. Mine was an hour. put some Silicone around the housing and put them glass back on. (I left the old Silicone on) and dont forget the 5 metal clips.

no, dry your headlights out, and reseal the edges with silicone.. shouldnt have anymore water problems.

Nope.. you need to host the file first.. try using photobucket, and then post the URL here.

JDMinprogress 25-Mar-2008 10:54 PM

so if i do as you posted i'll b able to get that off the inside>?

k_r_a_c_k_e_r 25-Mar-2008 11:32 PM

I'm not to sure about doing it with them..

the OEM lights are glass..

yours are plastic.. might warp or brake trying too.

EDIT*.. I think I have seen someone take the TYC's apart before, not sure how they did it though..

JDMinprogress 26-Mar-2008 12:08 AM

i was going to say, i dont think it'll work.
but the person before me used this silicon, but i could use a knife and cut thru it and prolly take it off. the only thing on them is the silver clasps and the silicone..
what do you RECOMMEND?

JDM_Ek 26-Mar-2008 03:11 PM

would it be the same process for an ek?

k_r_a_c_k_e_r 26-Mar-2008 04:22 PM

^^ yes.

hula_balu 26-Mar-2008 05:48 PM

put it in the oven @ 325degrees for 5 mins... you mean the whole headlight housing? it has some plastic in it... will the heat warp the plastic? or worse melt it? sorry noob question

k_r_a_c_k_e_r 26-Mar-2008 09:02 PM

no, it wont melt or warp anything.. just dont leave it in there for half an hour.. lol

seanv98 12-Apr-2008 09:21 PM
