changing pads and shoes
 

Hey all,

Will be attempting to change the pads and shoes on my 2001 4dr. I bought the Haynes manual and it doesnt mention anything about applying anti seize to the bolts but my buddy (who i borrowed a few tools from) lent me his bottle as well.

Now is there anything else that i need other than what i have:

pads + shoes
anti seize
socket set
torque wrench
screw drivers
wooden blocks for wheels

The manual mentions the use of C-clamps, i dont have this but is it necessary??

And if at all possible does anyone have pics cuz the pics in the manual are black and white and also somewhat blurry.

Might be necessary to have a C clamp or a bigger wrench. You need it so you can compress the caliper piston when you install the new shoes. Don't forget you might need to loosen the cap on the brake fluid resevoir and take a but out before you compress the caliper piston otherwise it might overflow.

when your doing the shoes only 1 side at a time... i laugh then i see guys doing both sides and they cant remeber where the springs go. just to for-warn you. :)

yes apply anti-seize to all the bolts. Lube up the guide pins on the caliper.. Dont go nuts with anti-seize, a little bit goes a long way.

everything is straight forward. I would change the rotors while your at it since rotors are really cheap. but thats up to you

yeah the manual gives a warning to do 1 side at a time in case i mess up.

dont know if im up to the task of rotors...but if budget permits i will consider it as well.

its really simple man.... jus remember exactly how u took the old pads and rotors off..... a c clamp of some sorft preferably a bigger one is a must... and some mechanics wire to hang the caliper up outta the way is needed jus try not to kink the line.... and yea.. installation is the same as removal but backwards... break cleaner is a must.... and carefull how u hold your rotors or pads.. try not to handle them much... good luck

oh yea... lol n make sure when u compress the caliper piston that u got the lid off your master cyl
