Pay and Benefits:

The TTC offers competitive wages and benefits including: Healthcare and Dental plans, Group Life Insurance and a Pension Plan. As per the Local 113 ATU Collective Agreement, the hourly wage rate for this opportunity is $19.43 (rate after training) to $25.74 (rate after 30 months).

so what are they *****ing about again? they can make 50k a year and thier unskilled labour? thats pretty good...

imported_Cablerat 02-Aug-2006 03:39 PM

also depends on the route..

Tougher route pay better.

imported_mugenpowered 02-Aug-2006 03:51 PM

^ Technically yes, but a family friend who is a ttc driver told me that the difference is really small. Like 10 cents an hour.

There is danger involved in this work. You drive a bus that has a load of people on it, everyone's life is in your hand. Let's not forget the couple drivers that got attacked during the TTC strike, when the victims weren't even involved themselves.

Also, sitting in a chair for an extensive time can really stress out your back. Even though the seat is multi-adjustable and confortable, the health impact cannot be overseen.

If it wasn't a government job (crown corporation or whatever they call themselves) and unionized would they be paid the same amount??

I don't know...

I hear what your saying about the dangerous/health reasons however...

imported_damdam 02-Aug-2006 04:33 PM

damn that's good pay

Jay P 02-Aug-2006 04:46 PM

applying at the ttc tomorrow

cheers

I wouldn't want to drive a bus for a living even at $25/hr. The pay scale tops out after 30 months. $25/hr is good for a few years, but not life.... Dealing with passengers, traffic and having to sit all day. Screw that!

imported_Bruce Fee 02-Aug-2006 06:38 PM

but if someone commits, you get a paid 2 week vacation at a resort immediately.

i'd hope people picked my ride for this all the time.

imported_GOT_RICED 02-Aug-2006 10:23 PM

yup $25 an hour and they get paid weekly........lots of overtime

DieselGino 02-Aug-2006 10:32 PM

Honestly, I have no idea where you guys pull these figures from. My dad has worked for the TTC for the last 27 years. So I think I know a little.

starting rate is around 16 an hour, how do I know, because my friend started last month. And I have heard of other people in that range. Yes a driver can make up to 25 and hour, but it takes time, just like any other job.

However, overtime is available for them if they want to work it. You try driving 9-10 hours straight on a bus with NO AC and let me know how you like it. Not to mention dealing with the public is pretty crap!

is that what they top out at?..TCC gets more f'd up everyday (financially)...i know durham region transit drivers make a pretty penny, however not enough to live a very nice lifestyle.

sounds like dieselgino knows whats really going on, 16/hr to start for a full time driver sounds practical..and most likely is their real rate...~30,000/yr

wtf are you talking about? the bus does have a/c. and truck drivers drive 13 hrs straight thru canada by themselves all alone i think it would be waaay easier for a bus driver to do it especially when they stop at every other bus stop to go buy tim hortons.

DieselGino 03-Aug-2006 12:07 AM

First off, the NEWER busses have AC not all of them. And if you take public transportation you might notice that there aren't too many of them.

When was the last time you have heard of a truck driver being shot while driving? Or having someone spit in your face cause you ask them for a transfer and then have them tell you to F-Off.

Truck driving and Bus driving are totally non-comparable. Like apples and oranges. They are both fruits (jobs) nothing more.

And your sarcasm about donuts at every other stop just proves you have no idea what your talking about (read the third word of this sentence, so yes I know).

Can't tolerate people who make lame arguments just for the sake of arguing. Especially when they dont know what they are talking about.

iam_immigrant 03-Aug-2006 12:37 AM
