Proposed Ontario Highway Traffic Act changes

I've created a rant / editorial / analysis of the proposed changes to the Ontario Highway Traffic act on the www.j-body.ca site. Feel free to post comments / criticisms if you think I'm accurate or way off base.

These changes are going to have a big effect on all of us no matter what we drive.

ection 85 requires that a vehicle display a device as evidence that the inspection requirements and performance standards prescribed by the regulations have been complied with. Added to section 85 is that the device is evidence that the inspection procedures prescribed by the regulations have been complied with. Sections 85 and 87 are amended so that the classes of vehicles that are required to display this device are to be prescribed by regulation and the regulation may classify the vehicles based on the use to which the vehicles are put or the requirements governing their licensing or operation. Vehicles exempted from this requirement will be determined by regulation, and the power to classify the exempted vehicles is very broad
That sucks.

http://www.petitiononline.com/sect1722/petition.html

I signed it, don't know if it will actually do anything tho...

EDIT: Also a thread about this in the general forum

Here's an idea....why don't we invite the local MP for the KC area to come out to our meet to chat with us. Not to boo them, but to explain our side of things and to put a face to the true enthusiasts. Let them know us and what we are about...
The same thing should be done for a Friday Westend meet.

We really need to let our own local MPs know how we feel too.

If we sit back and wait....we are leaving decisions to be made by others...others that may not know all the facts.

just my 2 cents

I think that's a great idea!!! What do these people think they are doing. People have been street racing ever since there were cars this will not stop the 16a kid from racing his moms Caravan and killing himself.

Not such a good idea

The first time someone does a burnout or rips it down the street your plans blow to hell

Anyone with any intelligence would know not to do such a thing. Doing a burnout or "ripping" down the street proves nothing about the car you drive... it only proves that the driver is immature and/or irresponsible. A driver's skills and the capabilities of their car can be tested and proven at the track... not at a "car enthusiast" meet.

Do nothing and for sure they will never know what the true car buff is and have the bill pass or try to educate people....namely our MPs who have more of a say? Maybe the end result is the same, but guess what....you can always say you gave it a shot.

Nodding to a do nothing approach doesn't help get the bill killed
