(non-car related)need your opinion---fake safety certificate

not really about the car, but...because of car........so this should be considered as chit-chat....right?

long story short, here is the story.......

one of my frineds just bought a car a month ago, and the car can not pass the safety cuz the car have some holes on the body(rear quarter panels), and need some tires too.

he really wanna transfer it under his name before get everything done, so he "buy" a safety cert. from someone, of course, paid a lot more than normal. however, after he paid and went home, he realized that the paper is fake, just a "colour copy", or maybe printed from PC........

don't need to be mentioned, the guy didn't pick up the phone after he got the money

i know he is just so stupid, it's illegal to do that...........atleast, he discovered that before he go to the ministry....

by some chances, i know a person who is getting the same thing from the "SAME" guy, and will meet in next couple days..........

so, what can he do now? what can i do for my frined? asking for the money back? call the cops? will my frineds get in trouble if i call the cops?

really need your opinions
thanks

i'd call the cops, you will hear alot of "beat him up" and all that stuff, but people these days have no remorce, they will shoot you over a couple hundred.

i would personally set up a sting with the cops (i dont care what anyone says) but they have safety tests for a reason, i dont really want to be driving head on with a guy when his car decides to make a sharp turn into me because something wasn't checked right.

bring cops into it, because at least if your buddy doesn't get his money back the cops can charge this ******* with fraud

you take your loss and that's that. there is no recourse for you to recover money from doing something illegal to begin with. it's like if you bought some coke and it turned out to be sugar, you wouldn't call the better business bureau, would you?

anyways, if you wanna shut the guy down, report to the ministry of transport or ministry of the environment... they will pass it to the police. it think counterfeiting is a federal crime... but i dunno for sure.

oh... not to mention that it's a dumb move to begin with... you can transfer the ownership w/o a safety. i think the new ownership will say 'not-fit' in the corner though and you will need a safety before you can get plates for it.

Heres the best plan, meet up with the guy tell him your going to call the cop on him if he does not give you back the money. Plus tell you friend not to be a ****ing retard and fix the ****ing car right. It will not pass for reasons, so fix them.

Report what? The fact that he commited fraud by buying a fake safety in the first place.

Lesson learned by trying to do it half-assed in the first place.

He could try to play it out dumb and go to mto thinking its all good. When they say its not real then he can tell em that this guy did it for him legit and that he did not know that he got ripped off. Then mto will most likely get the guy for fake safety.

Sure. The guy who "issued" the fake safety may end up facing criminal code charges for forgery and up to 10 years in prison if convicted. The original poster's "friend" could also face criminal code charges and up to 10 years for uttering a forged document to MTO.

Yes, that's a very good plan you have there.

Bah misunderstood. If he was to report him to mto or police he should try to cover his a$$ and pretend he did not know that it was a fake one and thought that the guy was doing everything legit. You can act like a dumba$$ and pretend you did not know what was going on.
Ofcourse the best thing to do would be to fix the problems and learn from your mistakes.

Pretend to not know it was a fake one?

The next thing that would happen is that the Crown would make a deal with the forger - slightly reduced sentence in exchange for testimony fingering the buyer as knowing full well what he was buying. Once that is established, the uttering forged document conviction for the buyer would be a shoe-in.
