Near death experiance
Hey guys, this is my story
for the past few days ive been battling the flu, and today I deicded to go to the gym...even tho my heath is not 100% yet ( im way to dedicated and the time off has been killing me )
It was chest and try day and I was doing the DECLINE bench press, free weight with barbell. I was using a wegitht that is never a problem for me, 170 lbs I can do over 12 reps...so I didnt ask for a spot or anything since I knew it would be nothing. But stupid me...im sick...so I didnt realize my stregth is down big time compared to what im used to...I was on rep 6...somewhat struggling then I thought what the hell, I normal do 12+ on this im going for 7...big mistake.
I braught the bar down to my chest, then only got it an inch up, I tried as HARD as I could to get it up at LEAST to the first safety notch...I was almost there ....milimeters away then I couldent hold on any longer. The bar was on my neck, all 170 lbs, I could not get it off AT ALL. For the first time in my life, I was going to scream for help hoping someone in the gym would hear me and come save me. but as I tried NOTHING came out, I could just open my mouth, I could not even whimper. The weight was crushing my throat, preventing me from breathing/speaking as well as my jugular vien. no one was aorund to see this happening and I was struggling for 20 seconds or so untill everything started to become blurry, I was light headed and I was seeing white dots EVERYWHERE. I was seconds away from passing out and dieing but then someone came RUNNING and took the weight off me. scary scary siht today
lesson learned is that next time get a spot for EVERYTHING and be in PERFECT shape for lifting weights.

yeah...faint..pass out from lack of air but then what happens as the bar continues to block my airway? and blood to my brain ? what if no one was around for a minute or two. Even if I did pass out its not like I would just wake up once it was removed, CPR and things like that would probably have to be performed.

best not to work out when sick or else you won't get better. excerise will benefit your immune system long term, but for short term, it can actually compromises your immune system. but i know wut u mean...i'm a gym buff too. glad to hear ure ok. yes, always have a spotter.

Thats why you should NEVER use the clips for the weights on the ends of the bar...I have no idea why anyone would ever use them for a press type excercise, they could damn well be fatal.
You have to be able to tip the weights off for your own saftey. I've had to pull a few barbells off of people in my day.....get a partner or ask somebody to spot you...I'll ever get the person at the desk of my gym if noone's in there....it's for your own safety. Glad to hear you're alright though.
