Looking to get some info, DIY garage opening

Hey guys/gals

My name is Sean, I'm a Toronto Res.

I don't know how many if any of you are located in Toronto or the surrounding area. My partner and I are trying to get as much information as possible for a business venture we are looking into.

Being someone that does all the work on my own cars and trucks, but not having the space to do it I have found that I put a lot of stuff off until the spring time. I live in a building as well so jacking up my truck on the street just doesn't happen.

We have been toying with the idea of a New Do it yourself garage. This is the real deal based on the information we gather.

I can give you a few details of what it is that we are looking to offer you, but a majority is still in the works.

6 bays with lifts, which include 5 x 2 post hoists for cars and trucks. Car bays will be geared towards lower riding body types. All hoists will be rated to lift up to a full size pick up and down to a smaller Japanese car.

All bays would come with a rolling tool box full of the essentials to do most repairs, but specialty tools would be for rent.

All bays will include a parts wash as well as an air line for tools included in the box.

Tire installer and balance machine (operated by staff)
Welding machines and cutting tools to rent.

Bays would also have their own work bench with all bench supplies such as anvil and vise.

Mechanic is on sight and for rent if you get stuck, chances are he would just help out for the small things that take little time. Or he can be hired to do the work for his set rate which would still be cheaper than crappy tire.

We would also have engine removal and engine flush equipment on site.

The costs for everything is to be determined still but will let you know in the future how this would go.

Right now we are looking for demand, location preferences, what you would like to see included in this.

Basically would you use an indoor facility to do your own work for a reasonable rate? Not having to worry if you have the right tools for the job, its heated and well lit.

And information you all can give us would be great, we are doing this not only for us as a business, but for you as well because I feel there is a need.

Thank everyone.

sounds great and that's coming from a tech who works at crappy... but one very major problem might be insurance. I'd look into that part before you bother with anything else.

Yes you are very right, Insurance is a concern. Were would be looking at designing the business around safety first. Lifts will be locked out and staff would be responsible for raising and lowering vehicles, all specialty equipment as well would be operated by a staff member such as torches and tire replacement and balancing.

Once we sit down with them and hear What they suggest we will have a better idea. There are a couple other places doing this already, one shop I know for sure isn't operating safely. Location and township is something that will also determine insurance rates.

Thank you for your reply, Sorry for any spelling errors and for my brief response, I'm replying from my mobile.
