Laptop

I have a laptop that the power cord does not charge the laptop unless you pull it upwards. So it seems that the power is disconnected from the board. How hard would it be to take it apart and solder it back together?

I worked at a couple of PC stores, and i had to figure out how to get this fixed, if yoru a DIY kinda guy and arnt too bad with a soldiering gun then yo ucan fix it

once you disassemble the laptop to the bare board you can go to AI / SAYA electornics and pick up a new jack, and soldier the old one off and clean up the contacts, then just soldier the new one back in and presto =p problem fixed, the jack only costs like 25c c its liek 1.50 for a back of 6 or something

as to how hard it would be, taking the actual laptop aparty is usually simple if you have any sort of experience with pcs, some parts u will need to pull harder on cuz they clip aswell as screw, on, u need to take off all of the screws on the bottom + the HD and then take off the top mount screws once you remove the kb and the power panel

what type of lappy do you have =p ?

This can be the beginning of a big problem actually so get it fixed right away...

My brother had this problem with his toshiba which was about a year and a half old.. now at first you would have to keep it up to get it to keep getting power..

Now it has serious problems with that, and when we took it to the computer shop, they told us the motherboard is fried and its going to be 800 dollars to replace, of course hes not going to do it, he was planning on buying a mac anyway..

Now I really dont trust the shop, Im taking it to my buddy whos at university from computer networking and a minor in some other computer study, and hes going to check it out, hes been working on computers from a long time so we will see if its really the motherboard or not..

Its a compaq, not my primary laptop so i'm in no hurry. I am a diy'r but i have not worked on a laptop before. I have barely done any work on my PC as well. I guess i'll give it a shot.

Can't remember full specs but it is a great laptop about 3500 new 1.5 yr ago... its around 3ghz pentium 4 with ati radeon graphics card big hard drive xp pro i think

easiest part is soldering the piece back on.

taking **** apart and putting it back together is rough. of course depending on the individual.
