Know anything Interesting About Your Job or anywhere else?

Curious to see some of the secrets of your workplace or anything interesting at all that you may know.

For instance, when I worked at The Ex I learned that with the game where you see those carnies throw the ball into the basket, the reason they can get all three all the time is because they angle their first shot to get it in and then leave the original ball in the basket for the next two throws. When you go to play the game you have to throw directly in front of you and if you get one in the carnie will take out the ball for the next throw.

Also the tall basketball nets have rims that are shaped like an oval, so you don't notice when looking directly at it, however look from the side and you'll know what I am talking about. When the rim is oval instead of round it makes it a lot more difficult to get in.

When I worked at a waterpark, we never changed the water and everything was done half assed. We would find dead rates, cats, racoons, zebras in the pool and just take them out with all the **** inside of the pool still, oh well...

So a guy in Customer Service here just had to make a call to a guy named "Dick Hammer". LOL. His name is actually Dick, not richard or anything. LOL

Oh ****, very funny. We made him howl while talking on the phone

I know tell me about it. Makes me sad when I go to fix someone's outlook and I see all my ***IMPORTANT*** unread and in the trash.

Hey Cynical how bad exactly is the mark-up? can you give us some examples?

here's an example

oil filter for a Hino Truck 185

cost: $18.99
list: $33.96
margin: 44.081%

:O wow that's HUUUGE!

On another note watch what you buy from Grocery Stores. My friends at Sobey's constantly tell me that in many departments managers re-wrap expired product and stick a new label with a new expiry date. This is extremely illegal but everyone looks the other way. Some departments don't even bother re-wrapping they just stick a new label over top the old one.

^^ That is gross... Wow... Makes you wonder...

I don't have any interesting secrets about my jobs, or old ones for that matter... Boo to me.

Cynikal.Mindset 17-Aug-2006 11:11 AM

44% is small markup too hahah

imported_Moe_Mentum 17-Aug-2006 11:11 AM

I don't even want to get started with the whole retail food industry. Just about everywhere has a dirty secret. The way I see it Mcd's probably has the cleanest procedures.

A girl in our office told us that she is 10 weeks pregnant. But we all know way ahead of that.

well i don't know about you guys but our dealership's markup is around that...but of course it varies....ranging from as little as 25 to sumthing like 70 %...i dont think our markup is ever below 25%

Cynikal.Mindset 17-Aug-2006 11:36 AM

yea ours is about the same and pretty much every place is the same...nobody marks up less than 25%

imported_Bruce Fee 17-Aug-2006 11:36 AM

golftown has a very high markup for clubs

very low markup for balls

CDs cost more than ten limes less to manufacture yet when they came out, cassette prices didn't really come down and CDs were twice as expensive.

police officers are corrupt.

We have a secret dungeon at my work where we hold a workers only fight club. The loser then has to become the winner's personal servant for a week (at work). Buy lunch, bring the car around, have coffee waiting in the morning and so on..

What better way to get back at that director who ignored you in the halls than to challenge him to a fists only 5 min bout.

It's great to hear the losers the next day make up excuses to the ignorant ppl.. Oh, yeah my face? yeah I uhh, fell down the stairs carrying a big box. hahha

Good times.
