Jim Loney ....This is one of the guys being detained in the news right now in Iraq

This is one of the guys being detained in Iraq. He is in the news right now. Hey, if anyone is following the news story, you are likely to notice this man. His name is James Loney. They aren't really doing a very good job in the news describing exactly why he is being detained. If you watch the news you will hear talk that this man was in Iraq helping to rebuild, before he got captured. I really don't think that the news is being completely honest as to why he is there and why he probably brought his own kidnapping upon himself.

I did some digging on the internet and found some pics of this guy. He is obviously a Christian missionary, stirring up trouble by protesting against the injustices he is no doubt witnessing. The news really doesn't say too much about his motives for being there. I think these pics I found will give a better view of how this guy got himself into a jam.

Here is Jim protesting against US war planes at the Hamilton Airshow. I would agree with him, except he apparently started singing a Christian song.

Poor Jim Loney, it seems as if you brought this upon yourself. How exactly did you think a predominantly Shiite Muslim country was going to react to the spreading of the word of Jesus?

So think, if your tax dollars go towards bailing this guy out, would you be happy knowing that you maybe helped him in his cause to impose his religious beliefs on others?

It's the same with that Nicholas Berg fellow from the states who decided to go profit off the war by starting his own internet service provider. He got his head cut off. Did you think the people over there really appreciated Mr. Berg trying to capitalize on their war torn country? Most likely not.

so saddam isn't as bad as a lot of you think either.

talk to some christians from Iraq.

the muslims aren't very nice to non-muslims while saddam gave everyone equal treatment regardless of their religious affiliation.

I think that if people, out of their own free will, happen to travel to a country which is occupied (or at war), then they should be automatically assumed to waive any rights offered by their country of redidence....

He was not sent there by his employer under a government contract.. so why do I, as a tax payer, need to pay for his stupidity in order to rescue him?

so it's okay if i go and kidnap some poor Muslim guy and maybe sever his head because Canada is predominantly occupied by bible thumping christians??

that'd be okay right??
ya, i wonder how well that'd go over as a defense..
weird, i'm an athiest and i couldn't really give a shyt about who's preaching what....

why is it the only ones who can truly show compassion and freedom of religious choice are the ones who don't believe in any kind of a higher power???

I really don't get the mentality that drives these activists.. They go to a war ravaged country where there is absolutely no guarantee of personal safety, and then cry when they get hurt..

kinda my point..
shyt like that doesn't happen here, but does over there..
ya know, i never use to agree with Bush going over there, but now maybe it makes sense.....with so much hatred why not just raze the place and start fresh...people get all pissy and prejudicial again, torch it again and give 'er a third shot....keep doing it 'til people figure it out..

not my actual thoughts but wtf, let's stir up some shyt

wiplash.. you can raze buildings, churches, houses, courts, libraries, etc.. but you can't raze people's memories.. hatred will continue, and will be even deeper.

look at any of the countries that used to be colonized (occupied), they have a very deep inbred hatred towards their ex-opressors.

Let's try not to get too off topic, I can see this thread being removed because too many people start expressing thie opinions on broader issues, like Bush, Iraq, religion ... Since, I started the thread I feel somewhat responsible if people start saying offensive things about certain groups of people...

It was not my effort to negatively criticize any one group's beliefs. I just thought that it was a really stupid thing to do, to go to a war torn country for reasons other than to simply help in rebuilding.

Everyone is entitled to their own beliefs.

How about those Raptors?

ya can't have memories when the entire population is wiped out..eliminate the hate by eliminating the entire problem, be it us, be it them, whatever....

what do you have there now anyway?? hatred..
hatred against those that don't believe the same as they do...hatred enuf to kidnap and kill in the name of whoever, what's the diff.

everything done against "believers" turns to (in their minds) a hatred and attack toward/on their beliefs..it's makes for a reason to fight and to hate and to destroy

anyway, my original point was: religion is once again an excuse to destroy

what right does the u.s have as a nation to invade a country and instill democracy? we all know it wasn't a utilitarian move but rather a political one.

i'm not geting off topic..
the statement that most caught my eye as something to comment on, in the original post was "Poor Jim Loney, it seems as if you brought this upon yourself. How exactly did you think a predominantly Shiite Muslim country was going to react to the spreading of the word of Jesus?"

when i see that as a possible excuse for the actions of the kidnappers i had to put in my 2 cents worth as well

if Iraq had the power don't you think they'd have attacked the US and forced their beliefs on them??? i think Saddam and Binny have shared more than a few cigars over a game of poker

note, i don't make reference to the people of any specific country, i attack their governments

exactly....like i said, hatred exists everywhere....ya wanna be rid of it get the guy with the biggest ***** to go genocidal, eliminate a race or two (or 1000, whatever) and everything'll be rosy

or sit back, forget all this religious bunk and don't give a shyt, don't hate cuz someone doesn't agree with your beliefs, cuz in the end that's what it's all about, not accepting people's differences

(again re: CNN) and watch it happen here too....

I'm not really hating on anyone... I'm stating that what you see on the media isn't exactly reality.

Just remember... The media is controlled by the few and watched by the many... Panoptic principle
