what is your realistic career goal for being 25.

if you want anything finance/office related, go to the bank.

if you want to end up in construction, go to the bank. no wait, go into some sort of physical labour.

all depends on what you do.

nothing on your resume will help you succeed as much as your prior experience. I was okay with a 65-** in university and had a bunch of my friends laughing at me, or telling me i was wasting my money and should have taken it more seriously.. i had the work experience.. i had a job much faster and much better than them.

imported_GoldBadge 01-Jun-2006 09:49 AM

Ya...experience and a degree/diploma will get you more than anything else. The degree just shows that you actually did something with yourself and the experience talks for itself. Marks dont mean much at all once you've gotten into post secondary school.

And if you're looking for a summer job you may have missed the boat by about a month.

Just keep mooching off of mom and dad until one of them hooks you up with a job.

imported_viper_2_4 01-Jun-2006 10:40 AM

experience is definitly the best thing.....

degrees and such as often necessary, but good experience can often replace them, however that experience is often really hard to get without a degree...

i left high school .. did my A+.. and basically did all sorts of lil techie jobs .. which put me where i am now as a Database Co-Ordinator .. didnt goto college or uni .. im totally against the school system FYI ... i dont see why ppl have to pay upwords of 20-30 g's to get a piece of paper that will get them a job that will end up working for like 1-2-3 years to pay that all back ... waste of time

not everybody can do it, and some fields it simply isn't an option...like a doctor for example....but ya if you can get away without doing it all the more power to you:cheers:

ya for sure .. but doctors should aready know going into it that its school outta the ass .. same with lawers ... they are in school for decades lol ...

Jay P 01-Jun-2006 11:33 AM

my company is paying for me to go to uni, and get my cga designation

paid to go to school FTW!1

imported_Bruce Fee 01-Jun-2006 11:56 AM

they might be in school for a decade, but a larger percentage of them can afford porchses then the percentage of college or highschool graduates.

i graduated with a debt of $4000... I worked while in school and still partied my ass off.. and my parents did not pay my way.

anyone can do it if they are willing to work hard.

cibs 01-Jun-2006 12:04 PM

:dito: to bruce, i paid my way through uni, partied alot and only had/have 5000 in debt...

and to be honest it all depends on what you wanna be... experience helps alot but going further on for certain jobs you need post secondary education unless you're a very very lucky person who catches a break somewhere or invents some crazy product...

*but to come out with a decent paying job, and to be at the BOTTOM of my pay grade definitely makes it worth it, all my friends who just got jobs and chose the experience only route were laughing at my while i was in uni but now that i have a real f/t job they're all pissed cuz i'm making way more than them and i jsut started...

again it all depends on what ur priorities are

I'm going to hopefully become an RN(Registered Nurse). I highly doubt there is anything I can do now that is related to that where I'll actually get paid, and yes I drive.

i know someone who just started RN .. she went to G.B. and graduated .. now she works as a RN @ a hospital .. lol .. i dunno man from what i hear its apretty serious job .. lotta hours .. lotta fecies heheh and alotta nasty work .. but hey if thats what u wanna do why not get into G.B. and do the R.N. course

van3e 01-Jun-2006 01:00 PM

George brown doesn't have an RN program. You probably mean an RPN. Colleges don't have RN, you have to go to Uni for the RN.

Jay P 01-Jun-2006 01:02 PM

good call for the RN...

move to the usa when your done...they take care of RN's damn good

have u researched that .. i really know someone who graduated from G.B. and now works as an R.N. my cuzzin and my boys girl .. i know neither of em went to UNI but they are both R.N's .. i know they had to write a RN test that wasnt given at G.B. i think but i know they didnt goto UNI 100% final answer ..

imported_kruption 01-Jun-2006 01:08 PM

When I work at a nursing agency, many of our RN's and RPN's left to the states when SARS was hitting.

Some places in the states were giving 10 k upfront for signing up and offering $25 - $30/hour American vs Canadian at that time.

RN and RPN's isn't a glamour job by no means but you get a lot of hours and the pay is good if you work in ICU.

I'll take Paremedics FTW:)

people do this now because each year that passes employers step up the requirement scale for entry into their company...most places now laugh in your face with just an OSSD, and require at least 2 years in college.

Actually oddly enough i was talking about this exact same thing to a full timer where i work (as a summer job). He was just pointing out that even though most college/uni courses give you a lot of information that you end up never using..its the fact that you spent the extra time to develop your education, it shows a lot of character. On top of that higher paying jobs require a lot of testing and without the education you would be FUBAR'd...so waste of time or not, i personally wouldnt want to find myself with just a gr 12 education 10-15 years down the road if i got laid off at my future job.

as for the original poster...it sounds like you have never worked a day in your life. If you want a full time job hit up places like jobbank.ca..talk to some people and see if you can get your hands in some construction for the summer..that will set you straight.
