GOC-GDC (Revenue Canada) Scam!?
Hey Bros,
Got few phone calls w/ ID shown as "GOC-GDC" and "1800.931.1026" in the past few days at around 6pm - 7pm EST, the other side of call claiming himself as an agent from Revenue Canada, attempted to ask for my SIN, DOB, I found the call very suspicious and refused to continue the conversation, did some researches on google and apparently it involved call spoofing, privacy and sensitive data violation. Did a reverse lookup on the number but returned nothing in my query. Wondering if anybody got the same call too. And just to remind you. You should never give out your SIN and DOB over the phone to strangers as they are consider as privacy and sensitive data. Mugen C |
wow. bet a bunch of people fell for that. there goes their identity.
|
as a rule of thumb you should harass and bother anyone who calls your phone and you don't know them.
cops will show up. legal issues will be mailed to you. no one should be calling you and asking you for information. they might call to yell at you for late payments or missed appointments.. but they should have the information in front of them. i **** with everyone who calls.. at home and all the sales cold calls from people who don't know my name... and you should too! |
I do the same when I get these calls at home. I ask for their home number, so I can call them back when they're busy doing something else.
Thanks for the heads up. |
Just make that **** up. I love calls.. is mrs. S.amberg home, we have important info on her credit situation. Well, there is NO mrs. S amberg for one thing. AHAHAHAA... then it gets better from there. I love that.

Thanks for the heads up. "Yes, I need a diesel powered generator" "How much load would you like it to take?" "Just give me some options." - no matter what, keep asking for more power "you don't want to save money?" "i don't believe in money" "we phased out our computers last year, we're strictly pen and paper now." "before we get to that, perhaps I could provide you with IT consulting?" "Sorry he can't come to the phone, he's in the hospital dying of brain cancer." |

"Sorry he can't come to the phone, he's in the hospital dying of brain cancer." Me: What is it that you are trying to sell me? Him: We are a company calling on behalf of Oracle and we offer training and support services. When can we come by to meet you and offer a free consultation? Me: You're reading this off a script aren't you? Him (sound of paper shuffling): No sir, I am not. Me: Goodbye! ** ** Next time I'll ask for more diesel for my generator. That or a replacement flux capacitor. |
"I don't believe in Oracle"
repeat yourself when he asks what you mean. Say nothing else. next IT equip sales guy that gets through reception I'm going to talk about mosquito repellent I think and ask him for deet prices. |
My favourite is the car warranty sellers calling me with "an urgent messages" that my car warranty is about to expire and that I need to renew the warranty coverage right away to avoid costly repairs.
I have "a few" different vehicles, so I cut them off and ask them to tell me which of my vehicles has its warranty about to expire. They're never able to tell me the answer to that one, with the result being that I tell them to call me back once they get that question figured out. |
I never get any such calls. I wonder why?

At home I just hang up on them. I feel better about myself when I know I've spent the minimum amount of time dealing with telemarketers. |
why do you have to keep it professional for work? as long as you have vendors that are comparable or better than anything anyone gets, who cares about treating cold callers?
|
I work for the Canada Revenue Agency and that number you posted is a valid number for the National Collections Call Centre - you need to contact CRA at 1-800-959-8281

Well, I have to keep it professional for work. I almost had another one get through today (good sign is when they ask for IT and can't name a person in there).
At home I just hang up on them. I feel better about myself when I know I've spent the minimum amount of time dealing with telemarketers. I have found that the hang up technique will earn you more random calls. I give those bi*chs the run around for as long as I possibly can while being super random. Makes for a good time. My lady often picks up the other phone to listen in but last week she folded on one of my lines and started cracking up. |
I work for the Canada Revenue Agency and ran the number that called you - it IS a valid number from the National Collections Call Centre, so I would perhaps give a call to the Personal Enquiries line at the 1-800-959-8281, to see if you owe any money...

I work on a big open floor with 4.5ft cubicle walls seperating everyone. I'm concerned about what my co-workers will hear. Makes it real troublesome to act the way I want when the Mormons call, which is about every other Thursday.

Yea i got a call from the same number and display name at 8:30 this morning. Decided not to answer because 1. I know any government agency does not call as a means of communication, they send mail, always have always will and thats one of the things they put out in their scam warnings. And 2. No government agency opens let alone makes phone calls before 9 am. But that doesn't stop scammers from trying apparantly.

That works with people that knock on your door as well... We had a Jehovas witness at our door trying to give his speil, they are told to find common ground so the guy made the mistake of complementing my mothers garden... She spent the next 20 minutes giving him gardening advice and he forgot all about why he came in the first place lol |
