Gingrich: Imams should have been arrested

Wow.. the US is becomming what it claims to be fighting.. apparantly not only do Muslim fundamentalists hate our freedom as George Bush would tell us, but so does Newt Gingrich!!!

When did praying and talking to someone that belongs in a subculture become a malicious act?

Police state in the land of freedom.

Don't pray unless you pray to our god, but you have religious freedom...

good stuff.

Gingrich: Imams should have been arrested

MANCHESTER, N.H., Dec. 16 (UPI) -- Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich told an audience in New Hampshire Muslim clerics pulled off a plane for praying should have been charged criminally.

Gingrich made the remark Friday night, as he delivered the keynote speech at the Manchester Republican City Committee Christmas dinner, the Manchester (N.H.) Union Leader reported.

"Those six people should have been arrested and prosecuted for pretending to be terrorists," Gingrich said. "And the crew of the U.S. airplane should have been invited to the White House and congratulated for being correct in the protection of citizens."

The imams, who had been attending a conference in Minneapolis, were pulled off a US Air flight to Phoenix after other passengers said they had been acting suspicious. They were questioned by the FBI for several hours and then released.

Their suspicious behavior apparently consisted of reports that they had prayed in Arabic and that they were not sitting together but had walked around to talk to each other.

Gingrich said last month the United States might have to accept new curbs of First Amendment rights to fight terrorism.

this actually happened several weeks ago and if you read up on this event, those guys on the plane were not reading out loud..nor were dressed or behaved in a way to raise attention.

one teenage kid sitting close to them asked his parents as to what these guys are reading and dad started to **** his pants...getting paranoid.

personally, i think they should have avoided doing this because of such a sensitive and fearful attitude people have these days...specially when flying. having said that..what happened was totally retarded. civil liberties are down to **** in US and events like these...fuel more hatred, disguise and risk for everyone.

Many thanks for the lunatic in the white house for creating an environment and age of fear and hatred b/w the west and the muslim / arab community.

dude, if they were scattered across the plane, walking up to each other, mumbling to each other in a language I didn't know, then start praying and mumbling and bowing and ****......I'd be scared ****less and start feelin' VERY uneasy.......

Like said, haymakers......get me off that damn plane!

haymakers..lol

driving while black, flying while Muslim, traveling with a Torah or getting with Jesus...all the same these days i guess. Last time i checked the US constitution still protected freedom of speech, expression and religion.

back in the 60s and 70s, it were the communists and now its the arab muslims.....the US only needs a front to keep their military industrial complex engaged.

lol...if they were to hijack a plane or do something stupid like that...they would have done it either way....instead of praying out loud to attract unwanted attention. its just a stereotype that people have now.

I don't know I'd be question what these guys were up too.. but I'd probably just ask one of them...

If the Imams were all known to each other and flying together wouldn't you think they'd sit together? I mean when I travel with friends or associates I like to sit with them and have someone to talk to for the trip.

My above statements are not based upon just that religion or whatever.

I am just saying that I would be scared ****less to see people doing that. People are scared these days and stuff like this will continue to happen. Just like seeing a black person walking around your car/house, you will get scared.

Or a priest in bible school w/ lil children. Or a person that looks like Michael Jackson.

There will always be stereotypes.

i don't think there is anything wrong with questioning and detaining someone for a reasonable period of time (US customs is not reasonable I don't think)

What is wrong is telling someone you can't pray to this specific fairy tale, if the guy next to him can pray to another fairy tale.

and for gingrich to say what he said... what ever happened to the US supporting free speech.. freedom of religion... protects the rights and libirities of it's citizens?!

as long as it's all within reason, and i can see why it would be suspicious, people are paranoid ****s, let's be honest... if you watch CNN or whatever all they show is the bad **** that's happening...

it's unfortunate yes, but what are you gonna do about it? if this is what they have to do to keep people 'safe', then they're gonna do it...

it's a shame that it's come to this, a few people ruin it for the whole lot... happens time and time again...

how many 'gankstah' looking black guys regularly mug/shoot/kill people? just a few, but if you see one of 'em walking down the street you'll walk a little faster and clutch your purse/wallet tighter...

all it takes is one bad apple...

what i don't get is why people think that because someone gets elected to some position or whatever that they're shocked when they make a comment that they don't agree with, they're people just like everyone else, and especially considering he's not the speaker anymore, he can have whatever opinion he wants... might just show is stupidity but there's people much stupider i'm sure
