Exclamation G20 Protest

I cannot believe this is actually happening... I am so disgusted with this group of protesters.

130 people have been arrested so far...

Now the amount of money that has been spent on security during this event is starting to make sense

Thoughts?

Rumour has it that these 'protesters/rioters' that are causing all this damage, are people sent out by the federal gov't on purpose in order to create jobs to fix/repair the damage that was caused.... another reason why the gov't dished out 1 billion of our tax money is for jobs created during the G8/G20.

Conspiracy.

I have heard that and find it hard to believe... the group of protesters that caused this are known to always create this type of drama and have a name for their group which is black bloc. I doubt these are government 'employees'

Absolutely stupid. There are the people who are protesting for their own reason, and then there are the idiots who are just there to cause ****. I watched some videos and they are just destroying everything in their way. Whats the point of that? I mean challenge the government in protest or some other way, but causing damage doesnt make sense. And then you have other people who are there and get excited and join in just to break things....Stupidity

Everyone was up in arms as to why they spent so much on security... case in point... all they did was cost the city a lot more money on top on what they were spending on security... I wouldn't be surprised if half these ppl don't live in Toronto..

A lot of the protesters were from Toronto. The black bloc, the people who caused all the violence and the riot, came from Quebec from what i understand. The protesters were not causing any damage just trying to express their opinion, yet the black bloc group broke out of the protest and started destroying everything in their way.

The money spent on security was well needed. I just wish they would have dealt with the situation better. Use the rubber bullets and bean bags. Also Toronto purchased the Low frequencysound cannon which could have been used. In my opinion, it doesn't matter what kind of injuries some of the riot control equipment can cause, if thing like this is happening, it's the perfect time to use it. Prevent damage to private shop owners and private property. Hell, start shooting at them for that matter. Fail to comply with the rules should result in serious consequences and not whats happening now. Tomorrow all the people who have been arrested will be let free with minor or no charges since there is no evidence of the person involved in any criminal activity.

watching cp24 for the protest at the detention centre... do they not understand they have to get these protesters away from the detention centre? The last thing police need is the prisoners inside the detention centre to hear what is happening outsid to get riled up and start rioting.

Peaceful or not... did you come to the city to protest useful crap or did you come to protest for the prisioners inside a jail?

Those pics you posted really captured the Saturdays events, Jess, at least from what we were all seeing on tv.

I am truly amazed that actually happened. I would have never thought Toronto would experience something like that. To be honest, I was glued to the TV.

There was a younger girl working at a Starbucks downtown when the Black Bloc smashed all the windows, security was walking her out, poor girl was scared and crying. Why these protesters had to put innocent people through that baffles my mind.

I know exactly what you mean, Jessica. It's something you see happen in other places, not something normally seen that close to home, cars set on fire, windows smashed, riot police. It was strange to see Toronto like that.

it's not barbaric.

protestors are stupid because they accomplish nothing and are only in the situation they are in because they are not capable of doing well in the environment they are in.

what is barbaric is pretending to give a **** about human rights and being friends with countries such as china and saudi arabia.

i am happy to be in a country where people can burn down a starbucks and not have their families beaten to death for doing so.

"Detained" - G20 Toronto Sunday June 27 @ Queen and Spadina

My buddy cut together this video of footage from the Sunday events where 200 or so riot police surrounded and began arresting 200+ civilians, media people and protestors at Queen and Spadina. He ended up inside the blockade with everyone being detained. Kinda cool. It looks best at 720P.
