Question Diamonds

k theres pics so if this should be in media im sorry.

So i had my black lights on, and was admiring my girl and noticed her necklace was shining funny.... it's supposed to be 3 real diamonds.... and it looked like this (it's not the angle either, any way u held it, it glowed like that)

this got us wonderin, and her friend was over and we looked at her ring and, although it wasn't as bright the same thing was happening... all the diamonds are supposed to be real

SO, is this normal or is somthin up here? I also looked at a ring with cubic zirconias, and it didn't really glow at all, just had a dull purple look to it.

What is fluorescence?
For reasons not entirely understood, certain diamonds emit a subtle blue glow when exposed to ultraviolet rays. This interesting phenomenon is called fluorescence. Many light sources including the sun, fluorescent office lights, and "black" lights emit ultraviolet rays. In normal lighting conditions, fluorescence cannot be seen.

EGL USA indicates the strength of fluorescence on its diamond certificates for identification purposes. The appearance of fluorescence in diamonds exposed to strong ultraviolet lamps ranges from very faint (barely perceptible) to very strong (a neon-blue glow). Some diamonds show no fluorescence at all.

A scientific industry study showed that, with few exceptions, fluorescence in diamonds affects neither price nor appearance. There are two exceptions to this rule. In a minute number of cases, diamonds with very strong fluorescence and a special arrangement of clarity characteristics may look slightly "cloudy," but consumers rarely encounter such diamonds. Fluorescence may also have a slightly positive influence on the appearance of certain off-colored diamonds, thereby making them more desirable to own.

Yea that's bc that diamond is fluorescent.
It's best to get diamonds without fluorescents so it won't glow like that and it won't get cloudy.
If you go to glow in the dark bowling same thing will happen to her diamond.

Well I personally like to know things about jewelry, they fascinate me.
I know everything about diamonds. The best one out there is D, Flawless, no fluorescent, excellent cut, which is very expensive and difficult to find.
I personally think that the best size is 1.5 or 2 cts, more is too much on a girls hand.

custom design is my middle name...actually not really just started out about a year ago and its actually quite fun.

james you doing 1ct whole or a combined 1ct in the ring....cuz 1ct whole will make a hand look tiny.

Yea dude....custom design all the way. It makes it more personal and you'll get what you really want rather than settle for whatever the store provides.

the quality and cut is when things start to get expensive James..
Princess is one of those more expensive cuts..

and IMO 1ct. is not all that big
Mandie's ring is slightly over 1ct. center and two over .25ct. on each side, all Princess cut
no one has ever commented on it being too large a ring for her, any comments have always been how nice a ring it is.....

and ya, custom band is the only way to go

D with FL clarity is the top of the line, tho you'd never be able to tell the diff. by eye over that and F/VVS1 unless you really knew your shyt

Make sure the band isnt too big that it takes away from the diamond. Bigger doesnt always mean the nicest diamond, you can get a smaller diamond with better color and clarity then a bigger one with not so great color and clarity.. it makes a difference.. I used to work in jewelery aswell. My engagement ring is 3 princess cut diamonds, two side stones are .25ct and the middle is 1.03ct, the band is 18kt white gold, Marty got them to make it heavier in terms of weight because I like it that way, he also put a round cut diamond inside the band to symbolize eternity... Let me know if you need help or any ideas James...

It all depends on the stone(s) you choose and the gold... Have you looked at rings? Has she said she likes the really sparkly ones? or the really white ones? If she said sparkly you want one with great color, if it's white/clear, you want one with great clarity... It's when you start to get into the bigger stones and the different cuts is when it can get pricey especially if you want really good clarity and color. How much do you want to spend?
