u know what lasts forever tho .. feelings... Love.... all that sappy **** ... if a girl thinks a big "long lasting" ring is the answer she needs to move on ...

I wasn't talking about feelings. Obviously if the feelings/love wasn't there in the first place I wouldn't be getting married. That's the thing you can't put a price on a ring, i'll spend $30,000 if I had it on a ring for her because to me someone who in my eyes is perfect should also have a perfect ring.

And I also wouldn't spend that kinda money if I didn't have it or needed it for a down payment. I wouldn't put myself in debt for anything. I like to be debt free.
I already have my house so it's just a matter of buying the ring.

I dont know about 30g because that could be money easily used towards a down payment on a house or investments for later. But I definitely dont mind spending 6-10g

Out of everyone who buys rings it is on average 2 months salary.... I don't understand what is funny.. To get an average there are always high and lower ends of the spectrum... and what does " who di *** is the Industry" mean?

this is sortta retarded in my eyes

why are diamonds valuable? who knows!?

why do we need to spend so much on a ring? because industry says so!

if we had legit reasons it'd be different, i know its for the person you love etc. but i think it should be a rational amount, i mean come on, we are civic owners.....

The original purpose for an engagement ring was a sign that a woman was purchased and belonged to the groom-to-be. The first people to use rings in a romantic way were the French. In the sixteenth century they used gimmal rings. These rings are intertwined, but had a little slit in the gold so that during the engagement each person wore one of the rings. On the wedding day the groom would take his ring off and give it to his bride and that was her wedding band (the two rings together).

If you've ever wondered why people put the wedding ring on the third finger of the left hand, it's because of an ancient Greek belief that a vein in this finger ran directly to the heart. And if you've ever groaned at having to buy both an engagement ring and a wedding ring, you can blame Pope Innocent III, who instituted a waiting period between engagement and marriage in the 13th century and also insisted that a ring be used in the wedding ceremony. Before that, rings were used to seal an engagement only (as well as other important agreements).

The circular shape was a sign of never-ending love between the couple, with no beginning or end. These days more and more couples are choosing to spice up their wedding rings and go beyond the traditional band. Diamonds can be found encircling the band of men’s and woman's rings alike. Colored stones and even pearls are gracing the tops of wedding bands, as more couples move away from tradition. Engraved wedding bands are also very popular worldwide today.

I don't think anyone's saying you HAVE to buy a diamond but, it's tradition. If you choose not to go the traditional way and your partner agrees with you, then all the power to you. But, I don't know many women who would turn down a good diamond....lol.
