Haha - I can imagine the look of horror if the dialer had discovered the call in progress before being caught... "Whaaaattthaaaafuuuuu..."

"Uhhh.. guys?.. Ummm.. I just called the cops."

I'm not aware of a modern cell phone that has an 'emergency button'.
It must have been a preprogrammed 1-press send & what kinda crook would have the cops on speed dial anyhow?

Those mugshots are priceless & that reporter should migrate to Naked News.

Just and FYI, I have a pearl 8130 when the key pad is locked and you press the pearl one the of options is emergancy call. If selected it will call 911. I didn't not program this. So if the phone was in your pocket you could press the pearl once then have it bang around possible scroll down accidently press the pearl again and call 911.

Hmmm ... I bought & sold a BB Pearl last year but neither read the owner's manual, nor kept it long enough to discover this embedded feature. Most other (non-BB) handsets will allow you to simply input '112' / '080' / '911' (depending on the calling zone) while the keypad is locked (or even the SIM removed) to access local emergency services. Thanks for the FYI!
