carbon fiber stronger than steel?

strength
Research strengths of materials...
Some materials are stronger than others, but only in certain ways. For instantce nlyon rope is stronger than concrete, in Tension. But in compression, concrete is way better...
This is an entire subject on its own. Don't touch it.

Carbon fiber are for the weight concerned people. McLaren F1s are made completely out of Carbon Fiber and Titanium for rims.
Carbon fiber body. It's strong and safe enough in layers and yet light.. however... steel is stronger but substancially heavier.

IMO i think that the same hood carbon fiber and steel CF would be stronger but if ur saying there is gonna be thicker steel then ya obviously stell isgonna be stronger
like the mugen CF hood my friend has on his S2000 when he went to go pick it up they took that hood and ran it over with a car no scratches or broken try doing that with a stock hood

the cf hood would be all over the lot

You are comparing apples to oranges... can't even compare the two. Plus, the strength of both depends highly on how they were designed and built. A good carbon fiber hood is strong enough to be structural (as evidenced by the monocoque chassis of the LeMans cars). HOWEVER!!!! Most hoods that you buy on the market today are actaully fibergrass hoods with one layer of cabon fiber on top just for looks. And yes, fiberglass is light too.

Here's some proof that CF isn't as fragile as some of you think...

Holy crap!
Thats some high quality ****.
I guess if its made to the right specs and of high quality materials, it can be very strong.
I read an article awhile back where they are experimenting with using CF valves in race car engines. They had a pic of the braided cf valves, looked like some wierd flowers or something.
