I beat you too it a week ago Brian.
how it works:
when you take 2 numbers with the same digits in them, but in different orders and subtract one from the other you will result in a number whose digits add up to a multiple of 9 since your circling and not informing the program of one of those digits all it has to do is determine which digit is required to bring the up to a total of 9. of course if you circle a 9 the program has a sum of nine and thinks you've circled either a 0 or a 9 since the rules forbid circling a 0 it must be a nine.
