2 1/2" floppy?
QUIZ........Lets see if the tech guys can figure it out.
:listen: I'm expecting Aaron to get it. What the hell was it used for? I also saw this at Active Suplus the last time I was down there, but I have no idea where we would be able to find a disc for it. http://petertodd.ca/2inch_floppy/2floppy1.jpg http://petertodd.ca/2inch_floppy/2floppy2.jpg http://petertodd.ca/2inch_floppy/2floppy3.jpg http://petertodd.ca/2inch_floppy/2floppy4.jpg And this was on the the case......... Panasonic MODEL JU-202-022 SER.NO. BH8007 0 2 5 2 3 2 MATSUSHITA COMMUNICATION INDUSTRIAL CO.,LTD. MADE IN JAPAN E66484 LR55468 (the main drive motor is missing a belt, and it also had a date on it..... 23 Jan 90) Question..... What was it used for? No prizes........just something to do at work to pass the time. Happy hunting. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------- :listen: I know what is was used for (2 different products), but I want to see if you guys can figure it out. (by the way, I still don't know where you'd be able to find a disc for it though). :shrugs: . |
Possibly from a musical device, like a sampler, electric piano, etc.? I'm guessing here because I had a very old rack-mount AKAI sampler that worked through the MIDI port on my Roland D10 synth and there was an add-on disk drive which used 3" floppy disks (yeah, 3" not 3.5") that were capable of storing one 8 sec. sample per side (you actually had to flip the disk over!).
I'd hazard a guess that that drive you have pictured was used for a similar purpose. Many of the companies (Yamaha, Roland, etc.) had proprietary formats during the 80s and 90s. They didn't last long though. Like I said, just a guess. I'm curious to know what it is now! :) |
I'm so disaponted......so many lookers, and only one post.
