Zmax engine treatment

anyone seen the infomercial for this kit?

its a 4 or 5 step kit that you add to your oil, gas, tranny, etc.

and its SUPPOSED to work wonders....

anyways, crappy tire is selling it for $40

anyone tried it themselves?

http://www.ftc.gov/opa/2001/02/zmax1.htm

"The CRC L38 test is a standard auto industry test which measures the bearing corrosion protection properties of motor oils. According to the complaint, in early 1997 an independent testing facility performed two CRC L38 tests of the zMax products. The results showed motor oil treated with the zMax additives produced more than double the bearing corrosion as motor oil alone. According to the FTC, the defendants eliminated the bearing corrosion results, as well as all other negative results, to produce one “report” from the two sets of tests, using this “report” in its infomercials on its website."

if that quote doens't turn you off i don't know what will..

The commercial for it is still on too

You know some fool is bound to see it and buy it still....all in the advertising.

:banghead:

cibs 25-Nov-2002 10:34 AM

yeah it's stupid how you can still advertise stuff even though it's been proven not to work, there's people all over the place that haven't read that quote and are still buying it and are going to suffer the consequences, just so someone can make a quick buck... :shooter:

cee_mon 25-Nov-2002 01:29 PM

If none of you guys have tried it...dont knock it.
My buddy had a 89 sentra and his car with running like ****, his oil temp. was running at 3/4 hot.....after he bought and used all of the Zmax products...his oil temp dropped to a normal 2/4. He was getting better gas milage and overall he said it was 50 bucks well spent.
So even think he probably saved the 50 in gas over the first month. I still think that this **** works and he does too.

imported_Hybridtheory 25-Nov-2002 04:16 PM

did you read that article??

its nothing but tinted mineral oil....

So I guess that the ZMAX stuff is pretty much like drain cleaner... or oven cleaner. It burns the **** out of your tubes to reduce the cloggage and feces you have in your pipes... but at the same time damages your pipes ... in this case, Engine.

My friend tried this **** on his Grand Am and he said it made him go slower. This is a waste of money, save your $ and get some Octane booster or someting:thumbup:

That's right! From now on.. I'm going to go and buy some of that NoS Octane booster!

Does that actually work?

cibs 26-Nov-2002 12:05 AM

heh there's a whole nother thread on the octane booster things... and as i recall they're not too good either, i'm too lazy to find it right now so i'll let someone else do the honours, but IMO anything that claims to be a quick fix can't be good for your car. There are no quick fixes in life that are totally good, there have to be some side effects otherwise everyone would use them.....
