ZC VS d15

Well me and a buddy where thinking about starting a project. Now iv been starting to do some research on different things and the final decision has come down to either a turbo zc or a turbo d15. Now im not worried about the actual motor dropping into the car so dont ask what cars its for .

Im mainly just looking for the people who have done setups on either one and some ideas as to how i should build it up.

Heres the kicker though, we are in no rush and its gonna be homemade.....we are gonna see how cheap we are gonna make this without going tooo cheap, if you know what i mean haha.

ANyways lemme know what you guys have done or know about this kind of stuff, as i said im just kinda doing my research before we get anything off the ground.

Thanks,
Tim

either way you look at it the components are gonna be the same...they are both D-series so other than DOHC, 1.6 and SOHC 1.5 there aint much of a diff...I would go with the zc for the added displacement and cam tuning abilities (intake cam and exhaust cam)

I'd go SOHC VTEC D16Z6... so many parts, and turbo cam available too.... ZC, there is no turbo cams for it. And gaskets, sensors, timing belt, tensioner, water pump, oil pump.... etc. are all easy to find, and tehre is 'nuff info on turboing the D16Z6 as well as proper ignition and fuel tables.

so for ease of tuning and parts searching, I'd go USDM y0! D16 or D15, whatever you can find easily.

d16z6....cheap to get. I sold my strong running d16z6 w/si tranny complete for $320.
You mentioned doing this as cheap as possible....well find out which d-series piston gives you the lowest possible compression in a d16z6 (or whichever engine u choose) and throw them on some shot peened b18b (LS) rods. That way you can spend more money on the all important engine management....whatever you do, don't skimp out on engine management.

in terms of cost I'd go with the d16z6, but otherwise I'd go for the DOHC ZC.

And their are turbo pistons for the DOHC ZC. I believe Bullfrog makes them, but i'm only repeating what I've been told from other crx owners.

research here: http://turbod16.com/ also sohchonda.com
great site is homemadeturbo.com

I will agree I have done the research as well. I considered both options I beleive that d16z6 is a great option just based on parts availability & the motor being domestic (ie easy to find parts)
