Your best mod purchase. Period! (56k beware)

I just completed the BMW Advanced Driving School. The best $500 auto investment I've ever made. I recommend it to one and all. Worth every penny and much more.

Presentation, cars, teaching, theory, and practical were all amazing.

Breakfast and orientation were followed by a morning session of theory, understeer, and emergency braking. Lunch was followed by oversteer, collision avoidance and a slalom race.

After this wonderful day, my admiration for the BMW has grown even more! About half of the partcipants did not drive BMWs; SUV guys, a van, couple of Audis, MBs, an Integ Type R and even a Sunfire. They were stunned by the handling of these sedans -- the balance perfect. Also, much of the understeer and oversteer (20 spins!!!) were done with all the electronic safety systems off.

I consider myself an excellent driver. This course really opened my eyes to all sorts of advanced driving techniques and to rethink some basics.

Downsview Park.

We had the whole ramp of the airport and a taxi way....man, we hammered those cars...the tires are replaced every month, the cars every year...still shaking and upset stomach from the day.

Also, there was no need for the water truck...it poured all morning...

I wouldn't classify BMW driver training as a mod.

The best mod on my car is still too come.

Level 1 in June is still not full....looks like I better book a day off in June. Perhaps I can get some practice in a 330Ci before I set foot into the training vehicles.

The G2 Racer 18-Apr-2004 08:38 PM

I argee with James it's not really a mod.

However it's a great course and when I've got the extra cash to spare I'm gonna take the classes. Looks to be a lot of fun and help you build on your driving skills.

Really?

It was a play on words, a euphemism, some comparative essence to discover the gestalt of the driving experience...

:D

imported2nv 18-Apr-2004 10:35 PM

did you get a certificate for that course?

imported_gatherer 18-Apr-2004 10:39 PM

Best driving school is 30+ autocross a season ... repeated often witht he more experienced drivers riding shot gun ..... but thats just my opinion.....

this year I might do the solo 1 school..... still debating about it

imported_Gatsby 18-Apr-2004 11:28 PM

Well that must have been a very good experience...
I would love to take some advanced driving leasons... I'm not that bad of a driver myself. I can drive pretty fast, safely and know some techniques.... However, I'm wondering if there is a similar program for less $$ and in cars more similar to ours.

After all, RWD has its differences to FWD and also, after driving a 330 for a day like that, a Civic won't please anymore. Thats what I'm afraid of the most! The best I can afford for now is my current car, however, I'm the type that if I fall in love with something better, I will loose interest in what I have VERY QUICKLY and start drooling over something I can't have.

Thats why I never test drive, or drive better cars, until I can afford one....:D

The G2 Racer 18-Apr-2004 11:40 PM

Yea.....RWD and FWD are too very different things.

Anthony: Don't use big words I don't understand, lol joking. Glad you enjoyed the course.

I'm sure that is amazing, but for regular drivers with little or no knowledge of the way physics acts upon cars, this course cannot be beaten...and to see the way the cars can really be driven. Wow! The three drivers' demonstrations were jaw dropping. The confidence in which they flung those 330s around was just amazing...with us sitting right next to them. They were articulate and could teach, too...a nice combi.

Oversteer. I don't like Physics:(

:D

imported_gatherer 19-Apr-2004 08:04 AM

whern I started Autocross I had little to no knowledge of the physics behind the car....

Oversteer rocks! esspecially in a FWD car.

Gatsby check out the solo 2 school if you want a cheap way to get tons of experience driving after that you can move on to the solo 1 school./....
