Talking Yay or Nay?

Hi everyone,

A new registree here.

I'm about to be a new owner of a 2003 LX sedan with 94k km, and I was wondering what your take was on the price I got and my insurance.

The insurance rate I'm getting is MUCH higher than my current rate with a '92 olds. I've been quoted 2500/yr, so am I getting screwed, or is this typical?

I'm also buying for $12500. To me, that seems fair, right? Please provide any validation you can, or tell me it's a bad deal. Thanks!

i dunno about ur previous insurance history so i cannot really comment on the price of the insurance quote you got, on the other hand, 7th gen sedan is a mediocore vehicle in my opinion, with that kinda cash, just squeeze a little more out of your pockets and purchase the 8th gen

That's what's troubling -- my record is 100% clean. I am 24, though, which I've heard makes a difference. I'll try getting a quote from the farm. Thanks.

squeez atleast 8k more? thats a stupid idea....

7th gens are decent cars, I imagine not as nice as the new ones but whatever.....

that seems like a decent price for the car,

as for your insurance, if thats full coverage (which i'm assuming it is) that seems like an OK price, you might be able to do better

it depends on age, coverage, location, and insurance history mostly.

If your young (under 25), fully covered, in toronto (mainly GTA) and have any tickets or at-fault accidents your looking at rates between 4000-5000+ a year.

I WISH I could get a rate of $210 a month as first driver. I pay $300/month as a second driver.

Shop around for cheaper insurance and switch! Try President Choice Finance insurance.... cheapest for me, 30%+ cheaper than my previous one.

Also to add, now that I've learned, I'll probably shop around for insurance every couple of years or so, especially if the rate doesn't drop after a year of clean driving. My old insurance co. WAS the cheapest 5 years ago, ~25% lower than the quote from StateFarms, for example. But after the 2nd year, the rate just kept going up by a little each year despite having clean record.... kicking myself not shopping & switching earlier.

i pay 200 on my eg hatch as second driver and im 23. Went down from 300 which was just over 2 years ago... when i turned 21 it went down and then with my school grades being over a 75% average state farms droped the price once or twice.

it all depends on age/record/and school for some.. cause aparently for me.. the better i am at graphic design... the lower my insurance.. i guess the better the designer the less chance of accident.. lol

The price seems about right for an 03 LX.

Why does everyone ask "Was this a good price?" after they bought it?

How many stars is your insurance record?

Also it depends on your location. My 00 SiR was $220/m up in Borden (Barrie) then dropped down to $120/m in Petawawa.

I'm test-driving it tonight, and then I'll make my decision. I've been burdened with a GM for my entire driving carreer, so I'm new to the Honda market. Thanks for the responses, though. I'm feeling more confident about the price and the insurance rate.

I'm going to see if I can get an extended warranty on it a no charge. Regardless, it will be mine; oh yes, it will be mine.

Thanks guys.

While listening to 680 news last night, they mentioned a possible insurance hike rate.

All of this is thanks to the number of crashes in the winter months, jumped from 3000 (last year) to 8000 thus far since Nov.

You can blame dumbass drivers who think just because it's warmer this winter, they can drive like it's summer.

i got that rate at age 22 w/ a full g license for 1 yr, and no at fault accidents and no speeding tickets *knock on wood...

my policy is up the beginning of Feb so im looking around for rates now.....with 1 speeding ticket and a not at fault accident, i have received quotes for $3500 w/ belair direct (w/ student discount), and $3000 with wawanesa insurance through a broker ...

gonna try state farm as well...
