Worth it to fix?

In a small dilema. So my 3rd gear pops out occasionally while driving. I'm guessing it's something with the tranny/synchro. I actually bought some new wheels and was gonna trade in but was only offered $900. It's a manual '99 Civic Si with 219,000kms. Should I take the dealer offer or fix the problem and sell privately? A/C not really cold also but all else is good.

Keep the car and sell it privately for sure Those dealers are ripping you off badly. All you need is a new tranny which you can get for under $250. Don't even bother fixing the A/C though, its not that important either which doesn't decrease the value of the car too much. Just fix it up and you can easily sell it for atleast 3800-4000. 99 Si's are going for atleast 4000 so your gonna be making a lot more profit then selling it to those ****ing dealers.

If the car is in otherwise decent running condition, consider keeping the car for a while longer.

You probably just need a refrigerant recharge for your AC, and you can get that done for peanuts at many independent shops.

Your occasional 3rd gear pop-out problem is only a problem if you insist on cruising in 3rd gear for extended periods of time. Is there a reason you can't short-shift through 3rd and use 4th gear instead?

If you're dead set on getting rid of it, sell it privately. The dealer trade-in being offered is no gift.

Cool, thanks for the replies guys.
I guess I'm not in a huge rush to sell it right away so a little extra time and money would go a loooong way when I sell privately.
Freaking stealerships!

i would have to agree with everybody else, do not sell it to dealer. get your tranny fixxed and when summer comes around get the a/c recharge kit for like 40$ i think. includes the hose with the refrigerant. so 400-500$ and you have all your problems solved. and if you really want to get rid of it, if there isnt any major rust problems and running fine, you could get it out for 4000-5000$$ no problem. [with fixxed tranny or if the seller does not notice that 3rd kicks out ]

Just fix the transmission. Not worth giving it to the stealerships.
