Why is this so difficult?????
I am trying to sell my car, and i just can't understand for the life of me what is soooo difficult to understand about "AS IS"??? As is generally means not certified. Am I correct? I think so. So if that is true why do people insist on bugging me to get it certified? As is means not certified...... Its really not that difficult to understand..... Is it?

When I was selling my 98, the buying wanted me to get it certified and e-tested. He was a younger kid and I assume he didnt want the hassle of doing it. It only needed a windshield and front pads.
I guess for some buyers, its easier just to be able to drive the car immediately and not spend time fixing things.
Oh, I ended up totally redoing the brakes, the windshield, tires and putting all the stock parts back on. The day he was supposed to pick it up, he called and said he didnt want it anymore.
I'd rather have people calling and bugging me to cert a car, then actually doing it and getting screwed.

$3000 as is
$3500 certified
(that is a hypothetical price range)
You can ignore all the calls you get about wanting it certified, but if people only see a slight hike for having it certified they may decide "Hey, maybe I can certify it for cheaper."
It gives people an idea how much it might cost if they need to get cert. This might not frighten them so much...
"As is" sounds so mysterious and scary. It sounds like you might be trying to pull a fast one.
As I buyer, I personally don't want something that is "as is".
It like buying a house and the toilet is missing. You say "Why the fukc is the toilet missing?"
"Its as is man!"

Nick has a good point, and to make a sale, sometimes, you have to think for the buyer(s) because your ultimate goal is to get the money you want out of someone's pocket, and how you do it is up to you. So technique matters.
Imagine how would you go about buying an "As Is" vehicle and what do you expect out of the seller to protect yourself as the buyer.

you all make very good points, what im thinking about doing when my autotrader add runs out is returning the car to almost stock, and painting it one color and certifying it, than hopefully i can sell it for a lil more and sell the parts separately

Still no luck Rob? Aw i would do what the guys said earlier in the post.. You should write 3 g not certified and 3500 certified.. as for me, you know me, I'm lazy, and rather pay more to get things done for me
I hope everything is good in North Bay I'm on my way to Atlanta for NOPI NATIONALS! I'm in Ohio right now! See you when I get back home!

If its not a POS as you claim...no one will buy it unless it is certified or REALLY cheap. People know POS cars will come uncertified, that's why they're POS's
Would you buy a 2000 Honda Accord that wasn't certified? Sure, if it was $4k, but not for $500 less than the going rate (hypothetical situation....).
As is does mean uncertifed, but to a buyer it could mean hidden problems, possible surprises, seller doesn't want to disclose major issues etc etc....
Just certify the thing and it sounds like it will sell.
