Why do people blow crazy amounts on civics?

you spoken why we would rather mod a civic and not drive an m3... it would still relatively be cheaper to repair a civic in the end compare to an m3.
btw, i don't own a civic now hahahaa.... but i would still love to get another one again as a daily....

perfectly said!
no one dumps $10000 in a week...
first mods often comes to lips, black out headlights... save up a few months
then get some suspension and rims... over half a year or so
engine swap probably takes someone half a year to save up
then after a year or so of driving, they want something different or more power... so save enough over a year or so... and dump 3-5k into engine building
so after 3 years... the guy has spent 10000 on the car... that's on avg of 3000 a year.... 250 a month... that's like 5-10% of a regular person salary
so its not so bad for a regular person to enjoy some fun for a civic over a few years before marrying and having kids....
250 a month on some joy and hobby is not so bad...

For me I bought my 00' SiR for a daily driver and weekend warrior.
I get upwards of 37mpg+ and keep my buddies on their toes at the drag strip.
Sure anyone can drive an m3 and smoke most civics on the road...thats just it...ANYONE can do that.
It's the challenge of taking an entry level vehicle not known for it's performance and turning it into a wolf in sheeps clothing.
You CAN spend LESS money on a civic and make it faster and handle better than an m3 (or similar vehicle), and be reliable enough to drive everyday....if you have the know-how to do it. Not anyone can do that...
There's something about making a civic do the 1/4 in 13 seconds that you don't get from doing it in an m3 or any other car like that. Also, theres nothing like seeing the look on the face of the guy driving the m3 when he sees he just got OWNED by a little crapy-looking civic with a turbo b18 under the hood....
Half the fun is doing all the work. Building up your own custom creation. The civic is a good cheap base to start with....there are a zillion options out there for this car....
So as I slowly build my car into an ultra-responsive, 9500rpm screaming NA tuned monster, I can't wait till the next mods go on....

the reason i drive and chose to mod mine is because i love the way it looks already and bottom line **** is cheapppp...my buddy and i always have this argument because hes like yo with the money u spent on ur civic you could have a e36 m3 or a 240sx with and sr20 but at the end of the day do i really have money to pay for insurance on a 8 year old M3 or do i even have enough money to repair the car when it breaks down........i started off working on my car when it took me 3 hours to put on an intake and now ive done a full motor swap and turboed my car all by myself that to me is the best feeling and the biggest reason i drive a 12 year old car...

it's a hobby, it can't be rationalized any other way than trying to graph this particular individual's indifference curve against his budget curve.
lemme see if I can explain it to you this way... say you like gay sex. you love it. you are truly passionate about the ****. now me, I'm more into girls. one day I try to tell you how great ***** is, and how much it's to be enjoyed... but you say you're just not interested... well that's a preference. I prefer ***** and hondas, you prefer gay butt secks and BMWs.

Working on your car is a past time and/or hobby.
Modifying your car is something that makes the car different than all the other thousands of civic's on the road. Its not
What made me get a civic in the first place was that they were reliable, cheap on gas, and reasonable on insurance. In addition, if something breaks, I'm not going to spend thousands of dollars to fix it.

It is a prefrence....if you like bmw's...go mod bmw's.....if your poor or just like hondas....go mod hondas...
Honestly, I can tell you if I won the lottery I wouldn't be going out buying corvettes and ferrari's and bmw's....I'd be buying s2000's, toyota ae86's and cars like that and be creating some bmw-spanking monsters out of them...

I had a 93 civic 5spd. It was hella fun to drive. It was my 2nd car and I loved it. I ended up selling it to buy a 2k1 Chevy Malibu.
WHY??
Because
-#1 my dad works for Gm.
-The car is much bigger (im 6'4, the malibu has my needed space)
-the malibu was fully loaded ( leathers, moonroof, ps, pw, pd, abs)
-The car is faster than a civic 3.1 v6 170hp
I spent $3540 on the malibu which I thot was a ill deal compared to 3000$ on JDM engine swap for my civic, then another 800$ to add leathers to my interior.
I Still love and miss the civic. But I found my new love.. 2k1 Malibu. yes its a granny car, but it wont be when I throw some 19" chromes on it. Lets see u do that to a civic
