whp vs @ the crank. whats the diff?
 
I thought my car was 106hp at the wheels, but dynos of it show like 90-95 whp... I guess at the crank is higher because of no resisitance or something and whp is what i have while actually driving?

If this is so, then how much wheel hp does a :

have... The y7 is 106 and the y8 is 127 according to the specs advertised. I assume this is at the crank? What is the true whp of these engines in their respective cars stock?

The Power is getting lost through all the gear's and friction in the gearbox and other thing's before it get's to the ground. My dad owned a stock Focus and it dyno'd at 103 to the wheel's and it's supposed to have 130 at the crank. With every bolt on available except for a throttle body it dyno'd at aroudn 129 at the wheel's.B16's stock or with minor bolt on's dyno at around 140-144hp a the wheel's. I have no clue about stock D motor's though. But im guessing a stock y8 with 127hp woudl have around 100-105 at the wheel's.

True engine HP will need to be dyno-ed, and even then, depending on altitude/sea level, and temp., it varies. In general, people say take 15-20% off of the BHP, and that is your WHP.

In general, the HP/Tq you read on that little plague in the dealer is BHP, HP that is measured at the flywheel, at the crank, and you guessed it, no resistance.

Once the power leaves the flywheel, part of it is lost via the axels, then the power it takes to spin the wheels, and every step takes a little away. And not to mention, your engine moves inside the car with factory soft engine mounts. The intention of that is to absorb vibration so the ride is smooth, but because the engine moves back and forth, it is already "losing" power that way.

I just got hard urethane engine mounts, I will see how that feels once they are installed.

Drive train loss. Simple as that.
A certain amount of power is loss through the drive train.

Urethane mounts make a world of a difference by keeping the power to the ground,

instead of having engine hop, this will prevent that to a minimal, but i dont see a big difference in WHP by adding these.
