the gains from removing your cat would be pretty small for the amount of work required, but if you want to go ahead, what i've seen other people do, they haven't removed anything but they go to a shop and get a hole cut somewhere along the exhaust system and then had a plate custom fit to cover it and be able to bolt it on. They put it in a place that's easily accessible without jacking your car up that way when you go to the track you can open it up and bypass your whole exhaust system, then just bolt the plate back on and be totally legal, but trust i have the same engine as you, i went custom catback and i went 2 3/4" cuz i'm planning on a turbo so my backpressure dropped like mad and so did my low end.... it'll be useful later but right now i don't have many gains at all...... just my 2c
