whats cheaper.. 2 cars or 1

hey guys,

just a curious question to all,
i have 2 cars, a beater and my SIR for summer.
im getting maried soon and im thinking practical right now.

i do not have car payments.
but b/c i have 2 cars that usually means, double the insurance plus your multicar discounts, as well as double maintenance.

what would be more practical???

ive thought of selling my SIR..... and just having one vehicle... OR buying an FJ cruiser or this sick 2006 WRX i saw at a subaru dealership.

what do you think is best?? and why ..i know by getting rid of of 2 vehicles = to less costs for insurance, less maintenance to worry about but to buy another one = car payments for a little while.

plus i have a mortgage... whats more practical???
advice please.

Chigs

dude you are not making sense , why are you complaning about paying 2 insurance if you just said one is under fire and theft ???. As far as I know fire and theft is like 20 to 30 bucks a month , you are telling us that you want to buy a really expensive car to save 30 bucks a month , which you most likely be paying because the car you like is newer , therefore insurance would be higher

As per maintenance , how much does it cost you to maintain a car that you don't even drive ( the one under fire and theft??)

I strongly believe you are just making up excuses to buy a newer car which is fine , but if you want to save ( like you are trying to tell us) then it is obvious which way you have to go

If you just want to buy a new car then just buy it , but don't use this terrible excuse of saving because noone is going to buy it

As per the car you seen , it is a really nice car and if you can afford it great, i would also assume your future wife has a car already so there is no need to have 3 cars in the family

Best advice yet. The SiR is still a very nice car. There isn't too many nice one's like your's left. I'd love to have one. Get married and get a house, then once your settled, but the dream car. My situation is a perfect example. Got married, bought a house soon after, then I got my Si.

I can't imagine a WRX would be very cheap to maintain or insure. I work with a few people who have FJ's and all they do is bitch about how poor they are on gas. They take premium too.

Well if you have the parking space for 2 cars, i would choose 2 cars over 1 for sure. even thought you might be buying a better car, you would want to keep it mint and not drive it over winter.
As insurance wise, I am not sure how much more the wrx cost, but i would think prob less then the 2 cars you have combined since 1 of the car only have fire and theft on it right.
Maintanence, Honda is prob 1 of the cheapest to maintain, not sure what you beater is, but wrx is def not cheap to maintain in my opinion.

your logic doesnt work. If you question is better to have 2 cars or 1 , it is obvious that it is better and cheaper to have 1`car. Therefore sell whichever car you like less and keep the other one (probably the SIR).

However you are taking a step further and trying to say that it would be cheaper for you to sell 2 cars and buy an expensive car to save money ????Which doesn't make any sense at all

I don;t think you want to save money if you are trying to buy an wrx which is going to cost you a lot of $$$ , higher insurance , higher maintenance and probably more gas $$, it is just common sense

I don't find it wrong for you to want to buy a wrx , anyone is free to buy whatever the hell the want to buy , but it is kind of funny the reasons you are giving to buy a wrx

Just like others said , keep the SIR which is a nice car, sell the beater and save $
