what model of EK civic has tach in gauge cluster?

what model of EK civic has tach in gauge cluster? my '97 CX hatch has no tach, and I would like to swap the cluster with one that has a tach. is it a difficult task? any modifications needed, or is it plug and play? i would assume the si models come with it stock?

thanks

SI and SIR

Its plug and play

you can also switch the gauges from clusters (say you want to keep your odometer), but the CX/DX cluster does not have the trace on the circuit foil for the tach signal. this is easily fixed with runnin a wire from the harness to the tach contacts though.

engineers rule the world...thanks.

i will swap the cluster for simplicity sake. what is the going rate on an si/si-r cluster? and correct me if i am wrong, but the difference between an si/si-r is that one the former is american and the latter canadian?

thanks

My DX had a tachometer.

it was an option on some DX's, but standard on all SI and SIR

all EJ (not EK) civics in Canada had a tach except your cx model and some DX ones.

i know nothing about civics, however i thought that all 96-00 civics were classified as ek's? what years are ej's?

ek is a riceboy term.. its the code for a japanese civic type R

EJ6 (DX) and EJ8(SI) EM1 (SIR) are the codes for USDM coupes from those model years

ah i never knew that. a lot to learn coming to honda world. i am also hearing there is a difference between manual clusters and auto clusters? what is the actual difference? can i use an auto cluster on my manual without any codes thrown, or malfunctions?

imported_TuttiGirl 10-Aug-2007 02:42 PM

why would you want a auto cluster on your manual? You want it to say DRN12 ??? Not sure if thats how it goes or not, it's been forever since I've been in an auto car

imported_kingrukus 10-Aug-2007 02:55 PM

ok thats what the difference is....it will show "DRN12"...i know some cars do not have that in the guage cluster, and i just wanted to know the difference...now i know....thx

no, there really isnt much to learn coming into the honda world.. here is all you need:

change oil regularly
take it easy on the car
dont waste money on it
save money you would have wasted
sell civic, get something nicer once your account grows

imported_kingrukus 10-Aug-2007 04:05 PM

logical sound advice, however i would like to do the cluster swap to keep track of my engine rpms, then sell the cluster when i am done with the car in the spring.

does anyone know if the 1.6el cluster would work in the ej hatch without any modifications? is it the same shape?

imported_blackcivic11 10-Aug-2007 04:25 PM

thats why you need a manual car :D lol the SIR and Si will fit for sure like everyone else said

imported_kingrukus 10-Aug-2007 04:48 PM

the car is manual.

anyone know if the 1.6el manual cluster will work on my civic without any modifications?

imported_Joker 10-Aug-2007 09:47 PM

yes it will work `, it lights up amber as opposed to the rest of your car which will light up white

Actually I had a 97 CX and it did have a tach. It was an option on the CX models to get a tach. It was the CX-G model.
