What is JDM?
JDM. It stands for Japanese Domestic Market. What that means is, partsthat were built in Japan and intended to be used in cars sold in japan. The parts are different than the parts we get here in the U.S. Sometimes they're significantly better in quality, performance,or appearance. And sometimes they're just different. They are difficult to find, and they are expensive. JDM parts consist of either OE(original
equipment) or aftermarket parts made by Japanese companies such as Mugen, Spoon, C-West, Veilside Etc.
So what are some common JDM Mods?
JDM(OE) Stanley Sidemarkers that come stock on all civics in japan, is a mod that is fairly in expensive and easy.
JDM(OE) stanley headlights for the 92-95 civic(EG) and Type R headlights for the 96-00 civic(EK), and corners for the 92-95 Civic(EG), They cost a pretty penny but the lights come equipped with "Citylights" so you are able to drive without using the full intensity of the headlight.
JDM(OE) Tailights are highly sought after because they do not have the reflectors in the light housing that we have in the US.
JDM Clusters from the SiR are swapped in for the US clusters on 88-95 civics(EF-EG) And Type R, Mugen, and Spoon Clusters for the 96-00 Civics(EK)
JDM Wheels from Mugen, and spoon are highly sought after because they werte designed with performance in mind, and they are very light.
JDM(OE) Mirrors for the Civic is also a common mod, the mirror is slightly different and they come available with a power folding option.
JDM Hatchback spoilers(OE) are a very common mod. They are longer in length and contain a longer rear LED break light then the US models. Aftermarket Wings are also available from Mugen, Bomex, and Spoon
JDM Lips for the 92-95 civic are available from Spoon and Mugen
Lips for the 96-00 civic are available from the Honda, Spoon, Mugen, Body Kits by Bomex, veilside and C-West also available.
JDM Clock(OE) is sought after because it glows amber instead of white like the US ones.
EDIT* Heres some More
JDM(OE) Steering wheels. Civic and Integra Type R SRS steering wheels Constructed By MOMO, are a nice way to dress up the interior of the car. The CTR(CIVIC Type R) steering wheel will fit the 96-00 Civics, and the ITR(Integra Type R) will fit the 92-95 civics.
JDM(OE) Type R Seats. The CTR seats, designed by Recaro, are a big improvement on seats due to They are race inspired. The CTR seats fit the 96-00 Civics, and the ITR seats fit the 92-95 Civics.
JDM Valve covers are a good way to improve the look of the engine bay. Red Type R valve covers are available for the B16A/B's and the B18C's. Also available are valve covers from Mugen.

Every single part on my car that has been added or changed is straight from Japan, made in Japan, and made FOR Japan, which would make each and every part on my car "JDM." I am not "JDM" and neither is my car, I do not like the "JDM style cars" nor do I live a "JDM lifestyle." I like clean looks, parts with OEM fitment, and styling that is subtle yet attention grabbing at the same time. I only buy parts that add function AND fashion and I'm willing to spend as much as I need to and wait as long as I have to so that I can get it. If that part happens to be made by a USDM company (like my Comptech sway bar), then I'll definately go out and get it. But, my experience is that most of the time, when faced with a choice between two companies, one an upstart US company looking to make a lot of money by selling cheap parts cheaply, and the other a Japanese company that races professionally and produces parts rich in R&D and engineering analysis, I'll choose to buy and use the parts that I believe in as a professional engineer myself.
Everybody throws these three letters around like its cool... IT'S NOT. I was guilty of this at one point, as was most everyone else. Nobody "claims" this "lifestyle," nobody claims their car is "JDM" anymore. JDM IS THE NEW RICE only because these people go around claiming they have a "hatchie all JDMed out." I guarantee you there is nobody that has a very nice USDM car with JDM parts that I've ever met that has said that... and you can ask anyone here where I'm from and who I've met and that'll tell you who is REALLY making JDM the new rice.
People don't agree on rice because building a car is an art form. This is why we do it, isn't it? It was why I did it for all those years. It was my form of expression, my way of showing the world my interpretation of what a Civic, Accord, or Integra should be. I believe it is the same for everyone who spends time, money, and effort on a car. It is their own personal canvas, and as is the same with art, people's interpretation of fine art, poetry, or even performance arts like ballet and other dance, it is all subjective to the person viewing it. "Beauty is in the eye of the beholder," has a lot of truth to it. Two people can see the same painting, say a Picasso, and take two completely different interpretations of it, two different messages, two different meanings. It is the nature of subjective subjects that causes the discrepancies in people's opinions.
This is no different when it comes to cars. Every other thread on every board is the same. Either 1 of 2 topics comes up almost every day: 1) Rota vs. $, or 2) JDM vs. Rice. There is no answer, because for every 1,000,000 people who have chosen this to be their interest, hobby, or obsession, there are 1,000,000 different interpretations of rice. Yours is going to be different than mine, that I am sure of. Some are more open minded, some have different tastes, some like different things. "Rice," has condensed down to mean anything you yourself do not like. If you don't like kits and this car has one, it's rice. Rice used to be an attitude, a ricer was any kid that had a Civic that thought he could rule the world in the little economy car his Mom had given him.
The point of all of this is, THERE IS NO RICE, THERE IS NO JDM. These terms are not defined anymore. These terms are all too variant, too transient (variable with time) to be defined for any prolonged period. In '97-'98, there was a guy named LJ Garcia, who brought the first Feel's wide body kit for a Civic over and showed the hell out of his car. Yellow vinyl interior, purple exterior, roof wing, wide fenders, the works. Then it ended up super flake yellow with 19" Racing Harts and air cylinders. Almost everyone who says they're "JDM" today would laugh at that car, name it Uncle Ben's and talk all the e-**** they could...
But let me tell you, back then that car was the absolute coolest thing that had ever happened. Maybe not for long, but it had its time, and not one person who was around back then didn't think, "wow, that's cool!" Even if it was just for a fleeting second before they thought, "wow, but that's really ugly!" That was when VeilSide kits were in, they weren't rice, and everyone was trying to be the first to put 19s on a Civic or do a headlight conversion nobody had done before. Nowadays, its all rice, but back then, everyone was into it. I am mature enough to admit that I had liked it, even though I chose to buy Japanese parts for my own car because I liked the clean looks and excellent quality. I enjoyed going to a show and seeing what innovations people had come out with. As I got older I became more **** and when the bondo boys started to go overboard I have grown to hate these lambo door quadruple chrome turbo PPDupontG superHondaTechImolaJDMOrange creations. I won't call them rice, though, because obviously that person's interpretation is just a little different from mine.
So, once again... If you're asking if you're JDM or Rice, that's a question on you yourself can answer. Hence all the useless answers you're getting, including this one. There is no answer. Your car is you, is what you've put into it, and is what you want it to be.
That statement didn't include any of those three damn letters.

Yup, my car represents myself, more or less. My taste is different from others. I don't diss people who put hard work into their cars, I never did. But if there is a style or mod that I don't like, then I don't like it.
LJ Garcia's zenki 6th gen Civic hatchback was very cool. At one point, I liked altezza carbon fibre taillights. My gf told me not to buy it cause she didn't like it. I still put a bunch of useless decals on my car, and yesterday, I just added on a new one.
