HF was the "High Fuel efficiency" civic. This was used for the CRX specifically if my memory serves me correctly. I don't think they bothered selling it in Canada. Anyway, it was a light weight model that was built so that it was just "enough". i.e. lighter brakes, suspension, no power steering.... This was also done at the cost of strength to parts. It isn't recommended to mod these cars because they were not designed to take abuse. Think if it as a predecessor to the Insight, without the Hybrid (gas/electric type) powertrain.

My SiR is right.
The HF was a CRX model and was not available in Canada. Only for the gringo's down south.
While many CRX'ers do mod them with b16's (they have MPFI like Si's) I've only ever heard of them for drag racing and not auto-cross, but I may be wrong tough.
They're really light but have no features at all...

They're right! The HF wasn't available in Canada though.. The 88 CRX HF is quite sought after in the states actually because they were the lightest of all years and models of CRXs.

The closest thing we have here is the 4th gen std. or CX hatch back.. They're just light, but unmodded they're pretty much usless.

Ok here goes

The CRX HF was offered here in canada

and there was also a HF trim level for the civic but it wasn't called a HF it was just a civic

HF (or just plain civic) was the transfer model from a 1500 and 1500 S to the new style late 87 (But these are VERY rare)

i've only seen 1 "civic"
and that was when i worked at mosport
